Dips! Inspiration anyone?!

Our family love love love dips. I don't like bought ones, too gloopy, so make my own.

The go-to favourite is avocado dip. End up doing it every time. I've also done blue cheese dip, smoked salmon dip, baba ganoush (bit labour intensive), homemade hummus.

I just want something different. Is anyone else's family as dip-obsessed as us? it's just an excuse for lots of crisps

I make a spicy feta dip ..feta cheese, jarred red peppers (or roast your own), olive oil and chilli (fresh or flakes) combine feta, pepper, and fresh chilli blitz and keep adding oil to get the consistency you want..if you're using chilli flakes i would stir these in at the end. Then just pop an olive on the top.
Lovely served with toasted pitta.

Thank you! I really like the sound of that. I love feta cheese

Roasted beetroot hummus or roasted sweet potato hummus are both delicious and really easy

HoldNose · 29/11/2019 11:58

340g cream cheese, softened
125ml milk or single cream
50g freshly grated Parmesan
2 spring onions (white and green), chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
2 large eggs, beaten
1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice
330g drained jarred or thawed artichoke hearts, patted dry
1 tsp salt
Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
Pinch cayenne
Butter, as needed
Assorted crackers

Bake and enjoy.

My lot like yoghurt and mint. Also with added grated cucumber and cumin, sort of cheat raita.

Coldhandscoldheart · 29/11/2019 13:00

This is a bit random, but I once made quite a nice dip/pâté/spread by pulverising a home made veggie bolognaise

CottonSock · 29/11/2019 13:05

Mushroom one with tarragon, ground almonds and maybe yoghurt. I don't even like mushrooms and loved this.

karmakameleon · 29/11/2019 13:18

An oldie but a goodie. Homemade salsa goes down well at ours.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 29/11/2019 13:20

Artichoke dip - this is lovely and can be made in a hollowed out loaf too.

Thank you all so much... one of my DDs is mad on artichokes so I shall be trying those. Lots of ideas here Smile

I went to a party once where the host had upended a tub of Philadelphia into a nice bowl and drizzled it with sweet chili sauce. Took 10 seconds and was really nice

A fresh one - sour cream or yoghurt with loads of chopped dill.

A fat one - aioli with loads of garlic.

One for seafood, prawns, carrots and cucumbers - half and half of mayo/yoghurt, ketchup, a pinch of sweet paprika, salt, pepper and a little lime or lemon juice.

Aubergine - cut in half and heat Aubergine in the microwave until soft, let it cool a little and scrape the meat out into the blender, add sour cream to your liking, cumin and garlic to taste. Blend and that's it.

Roussette · 29/11/2019 16:07

I'm liking these!

Zizzi (used to?) do a white bean one. Cannelini beans, lemon, bit of rosemary, touch of garlic, zhush of olive oil maybe? Anyway, not managed to perfect the bugger, but if you can, it's gorgeous.

Lololololola · 29/11/2019 19:50

Oh and bit of pesto in it. Not too much though...

Doje · 29/11/2019 19:57

It's a bit 80's, but my mum does one that's philli cheese with diced ham and pineapple. Soooooo tasty!

Cmagic7 · 29/11/2019 20:10

Muhammara!! (Roasted red pepper, toasted walnuts and other yummy things). So good and really useful if you have vegans over.

Also, I don't know if you use Foodgawker, but a search for dips produces thousands of links to recipes - you could be there for days.

How about a baked Camembert?

AtleastitsnotMonday · 29/11/2019 21:39

I make a dip using half yoghurt, half mayo with mango chutney and curry paste. It’s delicious!

Roussette · 30/11/2019 07:15

Baked camembert is delicious, just prefer a mix of flavours Smile

Dukka is nice too and will keep in a jar in the fridge quite well. Serve it with pitta and oil

TheSpottedZebra · 01/12/2019 10:05

This -> www.rivercottage.net/recipes/cambodian-wedding-day-dip so, so good.

Also, Pioneer Woman is really good for old school dips.

Roussette · 01/12/2019 12:27

That looks really different Zebra, I love asian tastes.
