About £75 for 2 of us but we both had 3 courses each and DH had a pint and I drank water so it was without alcohol.

I'd love to spend £75 on lunch! But i'd be wanting a good well done steak and gallons of booze for £75 Actually I don't think I've ever spent £75 on dinner! LOL

But still, what an afternoon to remember! I hope you & dp are planning a nice romantic evening working off the dinner [smutty grin]

collision · 12/08/2007 19:11

Well starters were £7.50 ish =£15

mains were £15 ish = £30

desserts were £6 = £12

coffee was £2.50 = £5

water was £3

Am wondering what the £10 extra was!

We are not extravagant at all but we would rather have one good meal out than a rubbishy meal every week.

We will remember it and it was great and we were childless and after DH has finished watching the news we will have a romantic evening!!

I'm sorry but it all sounds vomitaceous. Eggs and oysters and suet all make me recoil in horror.
But glad you enjoyed it!

Also am lush and can't imagine decent lunch without at least a big glass of wine.

3Ddonut · 12/08/2007 19:14

How nice for you.....it's lovely to push the boat out and treat yourselves once in a while!!! Am a bit tho!!!!! I remember those days....(nostalgic emotician)

aloha · 12/08/2007 19:14

I've spent £75 numerous times. But most of it was on alcohol, I suspect!

peanutbear · 12/08/2007 19:15

sounds great I am pleased you had a good time the food sounds delicious

wha was the resturant like and the service?

i'm nosey arent I

collision · 12/08/2007 19:16

well it wasnt vomitacious at all....it was lovely and light and everything was homemade.

I was sceptical about an oyster in hotpot but it was delicious. And it was freezing cold and raining when we got there so it was perfect.

service was brilliant but informal and they didnt make you feel awkward at all.

It was a pub but with fab food. Bray is gorgeous and old fashioned and I think if I was a local I would be a bit peed off about the traffic going through.

Bray has Waterside Inn and the Fat Duck too so there are a lot of people around.

The building was oldfashioned with a modern twist, not tablecloths. A new carpet would definitely be the order of the day but apart from that everything was great.

Sounds interesting food. I don't eat meat so not for me, but there sounds stuff DH would enjoy.

When you break down the bill the amounts don't sound bad at all. Didn't someone else from MN go recently and spend £000s?

Where is Bray?

Is it Dublin?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 12/08/2007 19:27

yum,

collision · 12/08/2007 19:29

No Bray is about 20 mins from Reading or 15 mins from Bracknell.

I dont drink anymore (or since I got so drunk that I threw up all over a hotel room and DH had to sleep on the floor )]

so I havent had a drink since 7 April!!

and Dh never drinks wine in a pub so drank beer instead.

There were lots of veggie options and lots of fish dishes too.

GoingThroughChanges · 12/08/2007 19:30

Ah, there's one near Dublin too which is why I asked

3Ddonut · 12/08/2007 19:32

Collision, 7th April????? YOu must have been celebrating my 30th then??? Sounds as though you did a better job of it than me!!!!

Heathcliffscathy · 12/08/2007 19:33

collision · 12/08/2007 19:36

I was in disgrace 3D! and I was so humiliated and ashamed that i had spoilt our night away without the kids.

I still am.

And so a drop of alcohol shall never pass my lips again.

Am into Cobra alcohol free beer atm.

and tonic!!

we went last summer and it was brilliant. weren;t you tempted by the degustation menu? the hot and cold tea was phenomenal

collision · 12/08/2007 19:37

Any idea why Sophable? It was odd but quite nice. Neck of lamb with mushrooms and carrots and huge great oyster in the middle!

OP posts:
hatwoman · 12/08/2007 19:38

derrr. just seen that you went to the pub not the Fat Duck

collision · 12/08/2007 19:38

Hatwoman...it was the pub across from the Fat Duck we went to. Heston owns that too!

I looked at the Fat Duck and did fancy the tasting menu. Might take DH for our anniversary.
