seriously, am gobsmacked. although credit must go to the person on here who said to rinse, rinse, rinse the quinoa beforehand as i think that helped a lot.
anyway, we had it with veggie goulash tonight, it was sensationally nice, all nubbly and nutty.

Ooh, I love quinoa too. I cook a few tablespoons for DD2 every day (to mix with whatever I'm making for her - she's 7mo and I use it as a protein source) and I invariably end up eating masses of it myself. I love the crunchy bits!

(And I love the way it comes out almost intact in DD2s nappies. Methinks that this may not be an ideal protein source at this age )

I just cover it in boiling water - microwave it for a bit then leave it for about 10 mins to soak up all the water so it's all plump - it's yummy as a desert with stewed apple and banana.

its keen-waaah

Lordy, I'm resurrecting a year-old thread. I am about to Try Quinoa. Chicken legs with garlic and lemon, plus the q stuff with random veg. Tell me it will be nice... (and then mock my previous postings on this thread and strip me of my Dr title)

Well, I'm back from a festival of rinsing and am still unconvinced. Am using 150g (one tightly packed cup) for me and dd (if we like it we'll spring it on DH later when he comes home with humungous TV), but it doesn't look like much (or look very appetising). Rinsing didn't seem to make it shed much - not like rice. Will report back.

I love rice, I'm coming round to cous cous but I HATE pearl barley in stews . Is it that sort of texture?

Habbibu · 04/08/2008 16:29

Don't know yet. Will let you know in about an hour. When we will possibly have resorted to sandwiches

Kewcumber · 04/08/2008 16:35

rinse rinse rinse rinse rinse again then bin the lot, its revolting.

Tinkjon · 04/08/2008 17:45

It's ok, not bad, but I prefer couscous. DH hates anything like that though, so we rarely eat it (I'm damned if I'm cooking us separate meals!) I've bought flaked quinoa for DS and that's bleurgh though.

MrsMattie · 04/08/2008 17:50

Oh it's horrible, sorry. And I feel like such a ponce trying to pronounce it. And Gillian McEvil-Beeyatch loves it, so I automatically hate it.

FrannyandZooey · 04/08/2008 17:58

LOL at year old quinoa thread
bizarrely I am just eating some with a bloody nice stew

Habbibu · 04/08/2008 18:54

Hmm. Well, have not had a Damascene conversion a la Aitch, but it's ok. Seemed a bit soggy, though - used 2 cups water to 1 cup q, but cooked with lid on (as I do rice). Was that a mistake? DD not uber impressed, but may have just been in a chicken mood, so hard to tell. DH says he would eat it again, as would I, but it's more of a slow burner. Not nicer than rice, no.

FrannyandZooey · 04/08/2008 19:19

cook it till the little tail just sproings out
it shouldn't be soggy - almost crunchy, really
