Is the Stokke Tripp Trapp worth it?

My DH has just impulsively bought a Tripp Trapp highchair. Lovely piece of furniture BUT we're going to need to buy a tray for it as it doesn't fit under our kitchen table due to a footrest in the way.

We've found a seller on eBay who can provide a seperate tray for £50, but on top of the £109 for the basic chair, and £30 for the insert it's hitting £200!!!

Is the Tripp Trapp really worth it, or should we take it back and get a cheaper one? Has anyone bought a tray and found them worthwhile?

I have TT for DD1, she was 4 when we had DD2, so had to buy her own TT. Now have two and are brilliant. Love the fact that when they go away to college (or prison) they can take it with them. DD1 is now nearly 7, she still loves hers. It means there is no jelousy, both have the same seats, sit at the table at the same level, and it definately encourages conversation. As for the lack of tray, aren't babies fed at table along with every one else? We have wasted our money on all sorts of gadgets, but the trip trapp was truly money well spent.

katierocket, looking at dd2's chair at the moment, and the bum seat is on the second highest notch - it's mostly the foot rest that would move further down as they grew taller. Their backs are still against the back

dd1 is 6 and her bum seat bit ( how's that for great vocab!) is also on the second highest notch. Think you need to go and see one, and take your baby with you to check it out!

Yes, def go and see one, they look like sort of nothing in pictures. A friend of ours who designs bespoke wooden furniture was in raptures over the tripp trapp as he as never seen one!
Am sat on DS1's now at pc.

Another big fan of Tripp Trapps - the biggest benefit of them to me, is that from a back/posture etc point of view they are unequalled - and, to me, that is the most important thing for a seat in which my child is going to spend a lot of time.

We have 2, the DCs are 11y & 9y and still find them (correctly adjusted) more comfortable than an ordinary dining chair, (their friends are also impressed & suprised to be impressed, by them!). In fact, when DD has grown a few more inches I shall be fighting her for her chair! We did once consider buying Stokke chairs for DH & I, but sadly couldn't run to the (huge) price tag.

My two had a great highchair with a tray they could bash to bits with their cutlery and not cause any damage (face it, they do it), and then they moved into the TT. 3 year old has the TT and 8 year old has been in a 'normal' chair for ~2 years, but now I'm getting him another TT because he won't sit properly. TTs get them at the right height, and if you make sure you adjust the depth of the seat properly (as opposed to its height) then they absolutely do not slouch. No one here has EVER tripped up on it and it has NEVER toppled. Worth every penny for good posture, comfort, being at the same level etc.

Batgirl you remind me that my older DS's friends all look scepticaly at the TT to begin and figure my DS must be a bit of a baby, until they try it, realise how comfortable they are and that they can sit tall and be at the same level as the adults -- then they don't want to give it up!

Mustdobetter - exactly, DCs friends are v reluctant to try the TT but amazed, when they do, at the difference it makes.

Years ago, (I may be wrong but I don't believe it is there any more), there used to be a display of oversized furniture at a shop in London, so that, as an adult you could experience sitting at a table in a "wrong" chair. It was revelatory to me just how difficult it was to eat properly or to write or draw.
