...

Right - got 12 adults, 12 kids (ranging 2 to 7)

We don't have a BBQ and I'm not a huge fan anyway so it's a day in the garden with food.

So far, because some people are bringing stuff we have:

Chilli
Beef curry
Potato salad
Lemon and lime cheescake
3 of those M&S tubs of mini cakes (mini choc swiss roll thingies, flap jacks, choc cornflake cake things)
A box of cheese straws

24 fruit shoots (argh!) and 24 little tubs of ice cream. Also about 100 bottles of Stella (these were all left over from our rained out summer fair at school so I bought them back so we didn't lose money!)

Help me, help me - what do I get?!

loads of raw chopped up veggies with dips
big fruit salad

Bellie · 31/07/2007 19:22

big bowl of salad, french bread or garlic bread

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 31/07/2007 19:23

Tell me you are joking re the fruit shoots and I will.

frascati · 31/07/2007 19:23

Can you do hotdogs/burgers for the children?

Gobbledigook · 31/07/2007 19:23

I wish I was - but for one day it won't kill em will it?!

OP posts:
Gobbledigook · 31/07/2007 19:24

Yes, was thinking hot dogs (any particular sausages I can get that are not full of sh*t?)

Kids is easy tbh. It's what else to put on offer for adults.

Paté

Continental meats, chorizo, serrano, salami etc.,

Gobbledigook · 31/07/2007 19:26

What, with loads of baguette?

I need another dessert don't I?

You need to check the labels, some of the JS hotdogs have really high meat contents.

Before the current PTA took over, the disco committee took over they used to feed the children the ones with the low meat content. We got rid of that nonsense and have doubled the hot dog stall's takings in the process.

Sorry I digress, as one PTAer to another.

Slubberdegullion · 31/07/2007 19:29

You need something to soak up the chilli and curry.
Rice is the obvious one but is a bugger to cook in big quantities.
Pita breads?
Cous cous?

BreeVanDerCampLGJ · 31/07/2007 19:30

Olives

thomcat · 31/07/2007 19:30

Hmmm that's the trouble with people bringing stuff! Well if people are bringing Chilli and beef curry I would make a big bowl of rice for starters.

Then how about buying lots of tortilla crisps as well to go with the chilli, and the curry.

Then to compliment the potato salad, how about a load of chicken drumsticks and wings etc that you can cook before the day andserve cold and then do a big coleslaw, bread and cheese, leafy salad.

Then add cherry toms, carrot batons, cucumber, cocktail sausages so the kids can dip in and out of bits during the day.

Then make a huge fruit salad and have pots of cream and creme fraiche etc around

quadrophenia · 31/07/2007 19:31

loads of french bread or make your own garlic bread using french bread and cheese
Tandoori chicken
tortilla chips
rice with chorizo, onions, peppers (or whatever)

Gobbledigook · 31/07/2007 19:31

I can't believe we do crappy fruit shoots, but there you go.

So just chilli, curry, potato salad, green salad, continental meats, bread, dips and crudites (posh me). What about a quiche? Or is that a bit 'Abigail's Party'?!

So I've got one Lemon and lime cheescake. What else shall I get?

Am seriously considering just ordering it all in from Ocado

BBBee · 31/07/2007 19:31

coleslaw

Gobbledigook · 31/07/2007 19:32

Ooh, TC, am liking your ideas!

Ooooh, I knew you'd all come to my rescue! I am pathetic!

OP posts:
Bellie · 31/07/2007 19:32

strawberries and cream?

Gobbledigook · 31/07/2007 19:33

Can I really just do breads to go with the chilli and curry. Was wondering how to do masses of rice - shouldn't be a problem should it?

OP posts:
quadrophenia · 31/07/2007 19:33

buy some vegetable samosas, poppadoms, bhajis

Or if not rice then you could have the oven on, microwave jack pots and bung em in oven for end part and serve jack pots with the chilli and curry and have some pots of sour cream.

A big green salad with bits of red, yellow and orange peppers chopped up and bung them in with a few halved cherry toms and cucumber.

Grate a big bowl of cheddar and people can have chilli, salad, cheese, sour cream and if they want it a jack pot.

With the curry I'd do a big bowl of rice but again jack pots would still work.

Or, a big bowl of new potatoes and chuckem in a bowl with olive oil, chopped up spring onions and a queeze of lemon juice and they can be cold and would still be good with curry.

Gobbledigook · 31/07/2007 19:36

What do I need to know?

I need to know, what else do I get to add to the stuff that I've already got so that it's a decent offering?!

And I need to know which hot dog sausages are not made of floor scrapings. I am a sausage snob.
