How much dried pasta per adult should you cook? I always tend to over cook and waste pasta.

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 27/06/2019 19:10

Somewhere between 70-100g probably

Doje · 27/06/2019 19:11

75g is the recommended amount.

Seems to work when I stick to this at home. Realistically DH probably gets 85g to my 65g.

PinkDaffodil2 · 27/06/2019 19:13

60g = small portion, 100g = quite a lot. But there’s something about eating pasta with friends that means a 500g bag will always get finished by a group of 4, especially if there’s wine.
And carbonara seems to be a special case in our house. Can get though loads!

Ocies · 27/06/2019 19:15

I do 75 g each. As Doje says, I have a bit less, dh a bit more?

CassianAndor · 27/06/2019 19:15

3 ounces, which I believe is 75g, for an adult. DD is 9 and I do 2 ounces for her.

CassianAndor · 27/06/2019 19:16

I’ve always measured my past and rice, as my mum did. Would never dream of guessing!!

Cornishmumofone · 27/06/2019 19:43

I only ever do 60g per adult

feelingverylazytoday · 27/06/2019 19:52

If I'm measuring I weigh out 75gs each for me and my daughter, would probably do a bit more for my son.

anothercuppaforme · 27/06/2019 19:58

Just started to measure it out: 75g per portion. Left to my own devices I’d eat 150g!!

Frenchfancy · 27/06/2019 19:59

100g. I'd be hungry on less, would happily eat more.

GrannyHaddock · 28/06/2019 15:12

An ounce is about 30g. For a macaroni cheese I would use 2oz pasta per person. For Bolognese sauce I might cook 3oz per person, and expect to have some left.

gowgow · 29/06/2019 19:14

I do 30-50 g per person. I'd rather have more of the good stuff - protein & veg - than starch.

I'd only use more if I had to fill hungry tums on a very tight budget.

lostfrequencies · 29/06/2019 19:19

I have 10g, can't imagine having any more.

scratchbass · 29/06/2019 19:21

I would do 50g normally as part of a meal with protein & veg/salad, or might go up to 60g depending on what there is to go with it. Same with rice.

bwydda · 30/06/2019 10:43

I use 50-60g each for us adults , which is far less than most recipes call for, but any more would be wasted for us.

10g?Shock that's a tiny amount surely?

kateandme · 01/07/2019 11:25

about the round of a ten pence piece apparently as holly and phil showed on this morning!

stucknoue · 01/07/2019 11:38

I cook half a packet (250g) for 3 people and get leftovers. Not massively greedy here though like our food

Sgtmajormummy · 01/07/2019 11:44

I do 80 gram portions on a normal day. That way I can eyeball (3x80=240) half a 500g packet per meal.
Can’t stand packets with small amounts left in the cupboard.

Time40 · 01/07/2019 11:52

I do 4oz (have just converted that, and it's 113g .... does this prove that I'm a bit greedy?)

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 01/07/2019 11:56

About 75g per person is the recommended portion. I usually do just under, so 200g for the 3 of us. Or scale up and have leftovers. I always weigh rice and pasta; it helps get the right ratio of starch : sauce as well.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/07/2019 11:57

I do about 60-70g each for me & dh & 30-50g each for the dc (aged almost 2 up to 9). As pp have said the recommended amount for an adult is around 75g but we tend to have salad, garlic bread or something on the side so I do slightly less. The dc probably have slightly too much each but they all love it & tend to not like anything on the side (their favourite is pasta salad so no point to a side salad).

babysharkah · 01/07/2019 15:43

10g🤣 please tell me that goes with the chicken that lasts for weeks.

formerbabe · 01/07/2019 18:28

I do 120 grams per adult Blush We're big eaters!

MrsRedFly · 01/07/2019 19:14

I do 250g for 5 of us Shock

Apolloanddaphne · 01/07/2019 19:16

I do 75g per person.
