So I read on here people freeze their sandwiches for the week, and I would like to do the same, but what are the best sandwiches to freeze? And how long to defrost?

Grated cheese with or without pickle
Ham

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 10/06/2019 21:33

What in the name of god.... why have I never known this!!

AndromedaPerseus · 10/06/2019 21:33

Defrosts in a couple of hours

AndromedaPerseus · 10/06/2019 21:36

Any sort of cooked meat: chicken, beef, corn beef , meat pastes also works well.

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 10/06/2019 21:38

Loom at you all popping in with your answers like it's the most obvious thing in the world. My jaw is literally on the floor

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 10/06/2019 21:39

*look

Pooshy · 10/06/2019 21:40

This is a bizarre concept

cricketmum84 · 10/06/2019 21:40

Just no. It takes 2 mins to make a couple of sandwiches. Why the hell would you freeze them and end up with soggy bread to save 2 minutes on a morning?? Just get up a few minutes earlier.

bellsbuss · 10/06/2019 21:41

The thought of it actually makes me feel sick Confused

boxcar · 10/06/2019 21:42

Chicken humus - use bread rolls rather than sliced bread.

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/06/2019 21:45

Cheese, ham, pate, chicken all work fine, salad and anything with mayo doesn't.
I know lots of people think it's horrible but it is a time saver and worth giving a go.
If you/your family don't like them, then don't do it again.

MaisyMary77 · 10/06/2019 21:45

I’ve been fteezing sandwiches for years. Generally either cheese or ham. I usually batch make them over the weekend, get them out of the freezer in the morning and shove them in lunchboxes. DCs have never complained about soggy sarnies and it’s one less thing to do in the morning.

ChesterDrawsDoesntExist · 10/06/2019 21:48

Do they really taste fresh though? I can't imagine freezing a whole sandwich.

hellenbackagen · 10/06/2019 21:49

Hang on.... don't they just turn to mush when defrosting?

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/06/2019 21:52

They're fine, not mushy and taste the same, to me and Dd anyway.

Pinkyyy · 10/06/2019 21:52

Sounds disgusting. Are you sure people actually do this? A sandwich can be made in 2 minutes.

DontPanic42 · 10/06/2019 21:54

Thank you, going to try these out. One more question, butter or no butter?
I make at least 4 sets of sandwiches everyday, and just looking for something to save a little time.

I used to take them out in the morning for packed lunches and they’d be defrosted by lunch time. Although the lunch boxes were kept in the classroom rather than anywhere cool. If you were storing in the fridge it might take longer.

The only ones I ever got a complaint about was tuna mayo, which didn’t defrost quick enough.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/06/2019 21:56

Do the anti freeze people not realise pre packed sandwiches in M and S , supermarkets etc are frozen.

catinboots99 · 10/06/2019 21:56

@MaisyMary77 do you think maybe your DCs have ever known anything other than a soggy sanga? So no frame of reference for them? the poor sods

BummyKnocker · 10/06/2019 22:00

Do the anti freeze people not realise pre-packed sandwiches in MandS supermarkets etc are frozen.

WTAF? They can't be, what about the salad stuff? Do you mean super chilled? I'm Shock

changingnam · 10/06/2019 22:05

I've frozen cheese rolls with spreadable butter, and they taste fresher to me than freshly made cheese rolls! They defrost by lunch but are still slightly chilled which I prefer over a room temperature roll

AndromedaPerseus · 10/06/2019 22:30

Dcs like the expensive brand bagels for lunch so I buy them when they’re on special offer, fill them then freeze and pop them into a box in the morning and they’re fine by lunchtime. I’ve got 4 weeks worth of filled bagels in my freezer at the moment Grin

MaisyMary77 · 11/06/2019 06:42

catinboots99
Lol, no, they only ever have packed lunches on school days. Smile

MaisyMary77 · 11/06/2019 06:48

They get to have normal sandwiches (whatever that means-dd2 likes marmite with cheese and chocolate spread) over the weekend and in the holidays and generally whenever they’re at home if they want a sandwich 😁
