Going away in a few weeks ,renting a house with fairly well equipped kitchen.
Want to do an early drinks/nibbles thing the evening after we arrive for around twelve friends (am not organised enough to do dinner for so many anymore as ds is only 3...my excuse anyway )
As well as usual olives, crisps, spicy almonds etc want some hot picky things....was thinking bruscetta with tomato & basil & some with roasted peppers,,maybe mozerella & chilli too
umm..spicy roasted new potatoes...garlic mushrooms...asparagus in palma ham...cheeses & bread basket
That kind of thing...have to cater for meat/fish eaters & veggies....any ideas very welcome but not too tricky & time consuming as dont want to spend all day in the kitchen
Thanks chaps

Olive oil in frying pan add chopped garlic & chilli powder - fry prawns. Eat with crusty bread dipped into the oil

DUKKAH

I have recipe somewhere if you haven't made it before (but somehow expect you will have )

and mini mozzarella pearls (marinade in something first) on sticks, with a leaf of basil and a cherry tomato, looks really sweet

can I come?

witchandchips · 23/07/2007 16:14

have a look at saturdays guardian weekend, the holiday foods bit had loads of tasty things in it

i'd do pan con tomate rather than bruschetta as it would be easier to eat (tomatos are squashed onto toast rather than chopped)

Lullabyloo · 23/07/2007 16:22

Franny....Dukkah?????? Nooooooo....never heard of it...do tell & if you are in Devon you are very welcome ...will get my G&B cookbook out & make you a choc tastic pudding

Chorizo tapas (for about 8)
Slice and fry 500g chorizo then put in ovenproof dish with1 garlic clove, chopped parsley and jar roasted peppers. Pour over small glass red wine, cover and bake for 10mins. Lovely with crusty bread!! Yumm

FrannyandZooey · 23/07/2007 16:28

Dukkah

100g/4oz sesame seeds
100g/4oz blanched almonds
50g/2oz coriander seeds
10g/½oz cumin seeds
1 tsp sea salt
½ tsp pepper

grind all in a nut thingy, or you could use a pestle and mortar. This amount makes FAR too much IIRC so scale it down perhaps. You end up with this fab, slightly crunchy spice mixture. Serve bread with small bowl of olive oil and small bowl of dukkah. Dip first in oil and then in dukkah. It tastes so good! We like it best with home made dough balls.

check out jamie oliver books they have a tapas selection
also get shop bought houmous take out of tub add a good few dollops greek yogurt mix up then sprinkle with toasted pinenuts and paprika and a drizzle olive oil
feta and olive dip -- mash up a block of feta with some greek yogurt and olive oil so it is dip consistancy then add chopped parsley lemon juice and chopped up kalamata olives drizzle with olive oil

Lullabyloo · 23/07/2007 17:19

Yum franny that does sound good....do you make the dough balls?

Have lots of JO books but his tapas thingies are not very finger friendly apart from toastie things
Dips are a bit of a no no as not in to communal dipping...could do mini bowls i suppose...but not sure as to the extent of crockery selection....hmmmmmmmmmmm

Yup, just make a pizza dough recipe (we use bread maker) and do small balls of it. Really nice with the firm crust and soft inside.

mmmmm - to the chorizo one and oddly enough the puff pastry one ... actually, all of them are worth a try(and no doubt will be tried and tested sometime soon).
