Are you a 'fussy' eater?

There are certain types of food which I cannot abide, however often I have tried to eat them. And there are other things which I have never tried and doubt I ever will.

For me

a) Food I have tried and just don't like

Aubergines
Courgettes
Polenta
Sashimi
Tapioca/semolina
Pearl barley
Herb dumplings
Fatty meat
Green peppers
Squid
Runner beans

b) Food I refuse to try

Raw oysters
Snails
Octopus

I'm sure there's more!

Had tapioca and semolina at school. Was made to eat them and hate them. Had tripe as a child too. And salad cream . I remember a dinner lady standing over me and not letting me leave the table until I'd cleared my plate. I won't be that person in my child's life.

The food I like most is the food I've tried as an adult. Curry, mexican etc that just weren't on offer when I was young, (60's child) I love most vegetables now having only ever eaten peas and carrots as a child. My own experience is one of the reasons I don't fuss about dd. She'll probably find loads more 'likes' when she's shopping and cooking for herself.

I am a fussy eater and I hate it - but I've improved dramatically since being a kid.

Firstly, I'm allergic to all seafood including lots of fish. I do like fish, but can't eat it. Seafood, I refused to ever try - maybe my body just knew I was allergic. Discovered allergy by touching the stuff.

HATE with a capital H fresh coriander. It literally makes me gag (even the smell).

Not a big fan of game, particularly game birds. Won't even try something like rabbit or pigeon.

Offal, liver, kidneys - anything that screams internal organ really - not a chance it will pass my lips.

Goats cheese or stinky cheese. I have tried but don't like.

Have tried but just can't like cauliflower and sprouts.

God and how could I forget.... black pudding. What the hell is up with that??

Why ask a question, then say don't bother to answer?

I tended to have packed lunches at school, so no issue with school dinners. (other than being hospitalised with appendicitis after eating a ham sandwich, not related but I couldn't eat ham for years.)

Like most children of my generation (70s) and in my area, we had a basic but balanced diet. A wider range of food wasn't readily available to us.

DH had the same sort of upbringing, but will eat/try most foods. I still won't, although do eat a wider variety now than I did as a child/teenager.

The smell, feel, look and thought of some foods make me queasy.

Oh!

Won't try duck eggs either, despite the insistance of my fussy best friend that they are just like big chicken's eggs.

they're not, they are laid by ducks and ducks eat fishy things, and fish and eggs together is rankorama.

We have a deal. I don't have to eat duck eggs, and she doesn't have to eat baby octopi.

I eat more or less everything and in quite big quantities. However I had porridge for the first time a few weeks ago and struggled to finish it.

I don't dislike any food apart from processed meats (spam, meatballs, etc)

although I have an uneasy relationship with mango, it's ok in some contexts (sorbet, for example) but really, it just smells of urine.

Me! Me!!!! I'm really fussy, am veggie and also can't stand:
White bread
peas
celery
many root vegetables
picky about salad leaves
dried figs
prunes
rich tea biscuits
runner beans, infact most green beany type veg

loads of others but I'd be here all day.

I'm a terribly fussy eater. All down to my mum allowing me to live on crap as a child. I used to survive on Smash, tinned spaghetti and heinz tomato soup. A cousin once told me when I was about 10 that the mushrooms in his chinese takeaway were dogs noses and I believed him, coz I'd never been shown a mushroom! My tastes have broadened somewhat over the years but I still dislike -

most meat (can eat very lean beef or chicken but usually only if I've cooked it myself)
courgettes
broccoli
cauliflower
cabbage
cucumber
turnip/swede
green beans/mange tout etc
tomatoes (unless cooked in something)
all seafood
all fruit unless in an apple pie etc
egg white

trying desperately not to pass m fussiness onto DD
