Are you a 'fussy' eater?

Mercy · 17/07/2007 18:33

There are certain types of food which I cannot abide, however often I have tried to eat them. And there are other things which I have never tried and doubt I ever will.

For me

a) Food I have tried and just don't like

Aubergines
Courgettes
Polenta
Sashimi
Tapioca/semolina
Pearl barley
Herb dumplings
Fatty meat
Green peppers
Squid
Runner beans

b) Food I refuse to try

Raw oysters
Snails
Octopus

I'm sure there's more!

double

nomdeplume · 17/07/2007 19:06

I am not a fussy eater at all.

TBH, I find adults who are, v. irritating

Blandmum · 17/07/2007 19:06

love liver and onions. Yummy

REBELlatrixlestrange · 17/07/2007 19:07

I'm obviously very irritating.

Shoot me now.

Blandmum · 17/07/2007 19:08

BANG!

I'll eat what you don't want. It will help to infalate my hips even further!

nomdeplume · 17/07/2007 19:09

I'm looking at this list and wondering what some of the more fussy amongst you actually do eat. !

Blandmum · 17/07/2007 19:09

inflate! Sounded rather rude, my typo!

The only time I got cross about food issues was when a woman presented me with a list of about 10 'allergies' (allergies my arse they were preferences) one of which was Australian wine.

So I gave her new zealand wine in a fit of pique!

love olives. Have found child friendly resturants that do them as a mini starter local to us. Feel hips expanding.

Blandmum · 17/07/2007 19:13

never, ever try sea urchin (ouni/ sp? japanise, sea urchin raw). Utterly vile and I almost threw at the table!

motherinferior · 17/07/2007 19:13

I bloody love olives. So does DD2.

some of the posts on here don't sound 'fussy' to me though. I wouldn't say that it was unusual or limiting (which is probably how I'd define 'fussy eating') to not like tripe, or offal, for instance.

nomdeplume · 17/07/2007 19:14

sorry, a bit comma crazy there.

iota · 17/07/2007 19:14

mb - Bella Italia - dishes of olives, nice food for grown ups, pizza and chicken goujons for fussy'uns

REBELlatrixlestrange · 17/07/2007 19:15

I AM fussy, but I manage quite well.

Shoot me now.

Too late. MB already did.

saggermakersknockturnalley · 17/07/2007 19:16

Notice I am onipresent on MN this evening. Courtesy of eating [gasp] separately.

Pate on toast if you're interested, followed by fruit salad and a rather large portion on ds1's home-made chocolate cake.

I am about to serve up chicken risotto made from Sunday's leftovers for dh and myself.

the kids dined earlier on chicken goujons from M&S, garlic bread, carrots and cucumber from my garden

bye

nomdeplume · 17/07/2007 19:19

Pate, I'm with you on. The rest

nomdeplume · 17/07/2007 19:21

DD (almost 5) and I had jacket spud with king prawns and (organic, natch) babyleaf salad (watercress, baby spinach & rocket), extra virgin olive oil, generous turn of black pepper and a pinch of salt. Utterly delicious.

DH is out entertaining clients tonight and so will be eating something gorgeous, undoubtably calorific and expensive !

MuffinMclay · 17/07/2007 19:41

Tried and don't like:

Offal in all forms (except pate)
Semolina, rice pudding (smell makes me gag)
Oysters
Dumplings made with suet
Sweet potato
Celeriac
Kohl Rabi
Lentils
Green peppers
Iceberg lettuce
Dried mushrooms

Refuse to try:
Snails
Nettle soup (or anything made with nettles)
Fois gras

I was a very fussy child, living on ham or jam sandwiches for years. I don't think a vegetable touched my lips until I was about 15. I don't consider myself fussy now, as I'll give most foods a go.

hurricane · 17/07/2007 20:07

Out of interest how many of the foods you don't like are ones that you weren't exposed to as children or ones that it was accepted in your family that you didn't have to have? Or foods you had a bad experience with at school. Don't bother answering but I think that's probably the case with the foods I don't like (beetroot and not crazy about celery).

FillydoraTonks · 17/07/2007 20:15

lol at all this

what don't I eat?

I don't like dried fruits in cheese. I was once forced to eat them as a child

aside from that will eat anything really
