I have never cooked Brussels, like ever. I have no clue what to do with them to make them special...

Any ideas welcome Grin

It's far too late now, you should have put them on a brisk boil in October. Pop a note in your diary for xmas 2019.

Squ1ggle · 23/12/2018 14:44

Roast them with carrots and parsnips and chuck a bit of pancetta in there

TheQueef · 23/12/2018 14:48

Roast them for next year yeah, this years fucked Xmas Grin

Quarter them and fry gently in butter with bacon and black pepper. And butter.

PickAChew · 23/12/2018 14:48

Unless tiny, I cut them in half then. Oil them for no more than 3-4 minutes, so cooked but still firm. I then drain them and put them back on the heat with a knob of butter and some black pepper and saute them for a couple of minutes.

Also nice done like this with soy sauce and a little sesame oil.

KissingInTheRain · 23/12/2018 14:48

Microwave. Takes ~5 mins. There are good instructions online.

Bloody lovely with crispy bacon bits.

somewhereovertherain · 23/12/2018 14:49

Just steam ours.

thinkfast · 23/12/2018 14:49

I cook them in a fissler saucepan (a cross between boiling and steaming) then stir in chopped chestnuts, lots of butter and a squeeze of lemon

There is an amazing ottolenghi recipe with roasted sprouts and chestnuts but i have too much other stuff to do on Christmas Day

Aragog · 23/12/2018 14:50

Lightly steamed, then thinly sliced and gently fried with some smoked bacon or chorizo. For dh and dd anyway.
I don't eat meat so have my steamy and sliced.

Toomanybaubles · 23/12/2018 14:52

I slice them thinly, wash in a colander and then pan fry with butter for a bit, turning it down and putting a lid on, sort of like cooking spinach but a bit longer. Salt and pepper.

driggle · 23/12/2018 14:53

I cut crosses in them and cook them for about 5 mins, I like them to still be a bit crunchy, meanwhile I fry pancetta in a pan. Drain the sprouts then add them to the pancetta pan with a bit of butter and stir fry for a min.

WipsGlitter · 23/12/2018 16:34

Five minutes just doesn't seem long enough...

Mendingfences · 23/12/2018 19:20

Shred them and stir fry with ginger and orange rind

SauvignonBlanche · 23/12/2018 19:21

Steamed for 5-7 minutes

WhatwouldCJdo · 23/12/2018 19:22

Steamed.
Depends on the size for how long.

CatsForLife · 23/12/2018 19:25

Roast with olive and garlic for about 30 mins. They’re gorgeous.

Livedandlearned2 · 23/12/2018 19:27

I like a little bit of nutmeg on ours, and steamed for about 7 minutes

AllYeFaithful · 23/12/2018 19:41

Lightly steam. I don’t go in for anything rich added, as Xmas dinner is rich enough.

Skatersbeskating · 23/12/2018 19:42

Steam, then in a pan to warm with chopped cooked bacon, garlic & single cream.

Bloody lovely.

WeeBeasties · 23/12/2018 19:46

Half them if they are massive, then cook them in a wok with a bir of double cream and chicken stock. Add chopped chestnuts. Sometimes include pancetta depending on how extravagant I'm feeling.

Peanut91 · 23/12/2018 19:46

Once cooked I had creme fraiche and bacon bits

Ffsnosexallowed · 23/12/2018 19:47

Shredded and fried with some chestnuts. Would add bacon, but dp is veggie

MaidenMotherCrone · 23/12/2018 19:49

Simply steamed.....they are perfect just as they are.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 23/12/2018 19:54

We use the water from the gammon to boil them and then add them to the frying pan where the lardons have been cooked- fry while stirring well for another 2 mins

SmokeGetsInYourEye · 24/12/2018 09:00

Just steam them - too many competing flavours on a Christmas plate already.

WipsGlitter · 24/12/2018 09:22

Can you steam them in a normal saucepan or do you need a steamer basket thing?
