DS hates lentils and mashed potatoes. What else can I do with a stew?

Doughballs Dumplings
Dumplings are suet and flour - the true topping for a stew

KatyMac · 29/10/2018 19:29

Cheese scones are a big hit here with stew

Or a big slab of bread

MongerTruffle · 29/10/2018 19:30

Pappardelle, or you could add some water and have it as soup (with crusty (preferably sourdough) bread

fleshmarketclose · 29/10/2018 19:31

Yorkshire puddings

Notquiteagandt · 29/10/2018 19:32

Celeriac mash? Loads green veg?

KatyMac · 29/10/2018 19:32

Or as a calzone using a pizza base

Jezebelz · 29/10/2018 19:34

Rice or jacket potato

namechange5575 · 29/10/2018 19:35

Buttered macaroni

PestoSurfissimos · 29/10/2018 19:39

Home made focaccia

Giant yorkshire pud and dumplings.

I make stew with potatoes, whole chantenay carrots and whole shallots so it's dead chunky anyway, no need for anything else really.

mathanxiety · 29/10/2018 19:59

Gnocchi

spookyspookyspookhole · 29/10/2018 20:02

Obviously Yorkshire pudding!!

CovenofMiLsfromHades · 29/10/2018 20:04

Balonz!

SilentBob · 29/10/2018 20:49

Dumplings and tiger bread. And if there's potatoes in that there stew (and there better be potatoes!) you get to hit the triple carb siren!

Bobbybobbins · 29/10/2018 21:20

We had beef stew with Yorkie puds tonight, amazing!

Sinalley1 · 29/10/2018 22:38

Wow! Some great suggestions! I think he'd love Yorkshire puddings.

I've never made dumplings. Easy?

Very easy. Suet, flour and water basically. You can add different herbs for flavour but I like them nice and basic.

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 29/10/2018 22:42

The recipe is on the back of the atora (the suet) packet.

senua · 29/10/2018 22:51

Yes. The trick is to put the lid on and leave them be to steam. Don't peek a look to see if they are done.
Left alone = light and fluffy. Peek a look = solid and lumpy

Andtheresaw · 29/10/2018 22:57

A blatant derail but my DS loved Yorkshire puds. Also couldn't take buttered bread (texture). He went though the primary years with packed lunches in a flask: all time favourite was tub of cold Yorkshires with a flask of hot stew to pour over. I batch cooked so probably easier than sandwiches!

PUGaLUGS · 30/10/2018 18:18

Definitely dumplings or Yorkshire pudding.

cdtaylornats · 30/10/2018 20:36

Turn it into Teviotdale Pie

Sinalley1 · 01/11/2018 07:52

So the stew was nice; DS 'sort of liked it.' He loved the yorkshires!

I want to turn the leftovers into a pie - basically stick a flaky pastry lid on top.

Will that ruin the meat? I'll have to reheat the meat anyway.

Weenurse · 01/11/2018 07:55

I do this all the time with this sort of thing. Just top with store bought puff pastry.

Sinalley1 · 01/11/2018 08:15

Perfect. Thanks Weenurse. x
