what are you supposed to do with it? I've got to age 35 without trying the stuff and now I've bought a jar - well two weeks ago actually - I think it goes on bread(toast) are there any other inspiring things to do with it - I looked for a serving suggestion on the jar, but it was sadly lacking. Help please.

If I have no other chocolate in the house I have been known to eat it by the spoonful....

you havent lived until youve tried nutella on wholemeanl toast with mashed banana!

also second the pancake suggestion.
spread on plain sponge cake is nice too if you are in the mood.

LucyJones · 10/06/2007 14:58

okay... you will all think this is very grim... but I like it spread on rich tea biscuits and dunked in coffee

firsttimemama · 10/06/2007 14:58

With ice cream sounds inspired- also, I did notice it was made by fererro but for it to be the exact filling of the famous ambassadors treats was quite a surprise.

ohh I like butter on my rich tea - not dunked though - I was wondering if you are supposed to butter before spread.

yes I butter before putting it on my toast. Makes it an even more lard laden treat

I also toast one side, spread the untoasted side with butter and nutella, and then toast that til the nutella melts and bubbles. Yummy (damn we have none in the house)

firsttimemama - Do Not Open The Jar.

Not unless you're prepared to put on at least 3 stone and becoming a drooling chocolate-covered lard-bucket.

(Another vote for eating it with a spoon, but I really can't have it in the house. I think they put crack in it.)

fruitful · 10/06/2007 15:05

As a dip for breadsticks.

DrNortherner · 10/06/2007 15:24

We love nutella too, we have it on croissants as a weekend treat, or it is good on white bread, toast, pancakes and as a dip for chopped fruit, especially strawberries.

hellish · 10/06/2007 15:26

eat it with a spoon, until you find you've reached the bottom. Experiment with whether you prefer it hard and cold from the fridge or soft and gooey from the cupboard.
Does anyone remember the little packets you could buy with a little spoon? I only ever had them on holiday in France.
I love Nutella (but can't have it anymore as dd2 has nut allergy )

SlightlyMadStilton · 10/06/2007 15:28

Dip breadsticks in it. Just like choc dips or whatever they were that we used to eat when I was little.

AttilaTheMum · 10/06/2007 15:38

You know what I'm doing now, don't you......

tinkerbells · 10/06/2007 17:05

in rice pudding and croisants in the middle then bake. Yummy yummy.

Can also use in milk or just stick your finger in.

MamaG · 10/06/2007 17:07

I've never bought a jar of nutella

I may do now though!

francagoestohollywood · 10/06/2007 17:19

I grew up with nutella (it's italian dontcha know?), actually my mum would ration it... never mind, my favourite was to spread it on salted crackers and eat it while reading comics or little women or any other book. They also sell small pots (individual portions) for like 50 liras or less. I was allowed to it that with a teaspoon (the trick as to eat it very slowly)
