how old is she?

tegan · 09/06/2007 21:19

I went through a stage of dong this with dd2 because she didn't sleep until she was 2. We tried giving her fish oils, watching what she eats, I even (under a gp) ssedated her for 2 months every night so I could catch up on a little sleep.

In the end we got some nice weather, she spent 12 hours outdoors running around and slept a 14 hour night. Since then she will do 6 hours and wakes for a drink and then does another 4 so I can't complain, but the best thing for her is fresh air and no napping.

food colourings

MrsWho · 09/06/2007 21:26

She is 5 she has been on fish oils for about 2 years now.She sleeps about 5-6 hours at most a night. She doesn't actually seem to need much more either.ATM she is on about 4-5 hours and is grouchy (though that could be the heat?)

She is very active I can see the playground at school fomr my doorstep and all she seems to do then is run.
She swims 2-3 times a week goes to the park, plays out and is very active.

well what does she eat? any ready pre-pared stuff should be looked at carefully, meals from scratch if possible, etc etc,

tegan · 09/06/2007 21:28

Could you speak to you're health visitor. You can make a appointment or go to the open clinic for a chat.

Malaleche · 09/06/2007 21:28

Have you considered seeing a sleep specialist?

MrsWho · 09/06/2007 21:29

She is never allowed Coke , I couldn't drink it when I was pregnant with her as she didn't seem to sleep then either.

She doesn't have a wide diet , mainly eats fruit, yoghurt, pizza, sausage, bread and butter (not all at once)

Maybe she'll grow up to be prime minister
Seriously tho, you could try eliminating all pre-prepared foods, refined flour products etc from her diet for 3 or 4 months and see what happens (well, you'll be cooking a lot for a start!)

MrsWho · 09/06/2007 21:32

We are out of HV now , need to see school nurse apparantly (will have to find out sessions I suppose)

I was knackered by 8am today.Migraines have come back and was really bad yesterday and wiped me out and she had been screaming from about 6am today

Does she eat raw vegs like carrot sticks? Maybe you could make your own tomato pizza topping and just add cheese, get the bases wholewheat in the healthfood shop?
If you think something in her diet is affecting her sleep and behaviour you really need to go right back to basics...

MrsWho · 09/06/2007 21:34

What food would they be in? and what can I replace them with?

I don't have much time (apart from my MN time )

misdee · 09/06/2007 21:34

dd2 doesnt sleep. she has gotton better since she has been in full time nursery. diet didnt make much difference.

just fill her up and let her run

Malaleche · 09/06/2007 21:35

Is she SN?

MrsWho · 09/06/2007 21:37

will only eat cooked carrot (has to be wet???? [rolls eyes])won't eat potatos or pasta. She won't eat other meat though will eat fish finger type things (Thanks to Charlie and Lola!)

Malaleche- I have had a lot of concerns about her but apart from her speech issues there don't seem to be anything specific now.She is obsessive and likes things in order (and rules) and has some sensory issues (loud noise , bright lights, texture of foods-nothing mixed up or slimy)

OP posts:
Malaleche · 09/06/2007 21:44

How about if she helped make meals? Would she be more likely to try something she'd had a hand in making?
What are her speech issues?

MrsWho · 09/06/2007 21:58

No she helps make stuff then wanders off to get something she does like.she doesn't seem to be able to stand certain textures in her mouth and is sick with it.

Speech-unclear speech, mainly due to hearing problems (mainly when she was younger but ongoing glue ear) She also has large tonsils/adennoids and used to be very dribbly

OP posts:
Malaleche · 09/06/2007 22:26

hmm, dont know. tonsil problems can interfere with sleep. Have you been advised to have them removed?

Malaleche · 09/06/2007 22:27

btw im not an expert on any of this, except healthy diet.

Malaleche · 09/06/2007 22:28

and not an 'expert' on that either, just own experience...[eats chocolate and drinks first glass of water of the day]

MrsWho · 09/06/2007 22:28

no as they do't cause any problems they don't want to remove them. She used to snore but doesn't now and they think she is growing into them

just remembered there are some teas for chidren which are supposed to help them sleep - if they have caffeine it wouldnt help much tho...have you tried homeopathy or any natural medicine?
