Do you have one? What do you like to make in it?

I used to have a slow cooker, which was great for making stock and mulling wine.

This has inspired me to try the yogurt in mine. I'm very time poor, and knew I would never be able to fit in scalding the milk, then waiting for it to cool, etc. The cold start method looks fab! Just debating which brand of live yogurt to start it off - Fage or Tim's Dairy. Decisions, decisions...

Have also treated myself to the glass lid, and colour coded seals, as they're currently at a good price on Amazon.

Seeingadistance · 11/09/2018 22:00

LesLavandes, I got my mine for the same price as you.

MsHomeSlice · 12/09/2018 12:50

dh has insisted on taking the leftover Shepherdess pie to work, apparently it was super nice! ...I was going to freeze it for another day. Also have a 1litre bag of the meat mix for the freezer too.

I have not confessed it was veggie, or very very out of date. :o

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 13/09/2018 09:06

Amazon are having a lightning deal on some IP accessories. I'm not sure how much longer it goes on for, perhaps until 10am, here

saintava · 13/09/2018 20:50

@Lougle do you mind if I ask you a question about yogurt? Could I use skimmed milk to make fat free Greek yogurt? I buy loads of the stuff and if I could make it in my instant pot that would be so amazing!

Lougle · 13/09/2018 21:54

I've never done it, because I'm a fan of full-fat all the way when it comes to yoghurt, but I've done a quick search and This blogger uses skimmed milk and 0% Fage Greek yoghurt, so she gets a Weight Watchers 0 SP yoghurt. Her method is loooong, so you could probably cut that, but the ingredients are all there Smile

saintava · 13/09/2018 22:04

Thank you! I'm going to give that a go 😁

Meet0nTheIedge · 13/09/2018 22:26

I use full fat as well.

SlippyPavements · 13/09/2018 22:34

Has anyone tried making a Christmas pudding in their Instapot?? I'd be interested to find out.

wowfudge · 13/09/2018 23:29

Not making, but I re-heated ours in mine on Christmas Day.

PawneeParksDept · 15/09/2018 11:24

Point of advice? If I wanted a Pork Joint to be as it is on Slow Cook after 8 hours but I'm time poor, how long on Pressure cook?

I also did @CoperCabana 's risotto yesterday and it was ace

wowfudge · 15/09/2018 11:58

I did nearly 4lb of pork shoulder cut into four large pieces for 90 mins high pressure then NPR. I removed the skin and fat first and browned the pieces on sauté first as it's a fatty cut.

PawneeParksDept · 15/09/2018 12:03

I haven't got my head around NPR yet does it just do it if you leave it?

CoperCabana · 15/09/2018 12:05

Ah great news @PawneeParksDept

CoperCabana · 15/09/2018 12:05

Yes. It will slowly release all pressure then switch to keep warm.

PawneeParksDept · 15/09/2018 12:11

Mine switches straight to Keep Warm before I do QPR

MsHomeSlice · 15/09/2018 13:15

Pawnee mine does that too, countdown, all the beeps and then L00:00 counting up, so if it's something I think is time critical then I will nick out and switch it off to let it NPR as I think it takes longer to NPR with the Keep Warm feature going

tbh I do not cook much time critical stuff...but Biryani or when I do the butter chicken with the PIP rice over I just set the time on my phone incase I go for a sit down and forget as I am MNtting

In case anyone wants to do the butter chicken, weirdly I thought it was MUCH nicer with breast, I used thighs yesterday and somehow the sauce did not seem to be as involved with the chicken iyswim! I am usually a big fan of chicken thighs instead of breast.

wowfudge · 15/09/2018 14:12

It'll still release pressure on keep warm. I don't find it makes any difference to how long NPR takes tbh. Whatever you do, do not QPR with meat or it'll be tough.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 15/09/2018 14:17

I ordered a second one yesterday. Mine was half price on special offer so I thought I'd get it for a gift (bugger, I just checked and it's gone up again).

It's a pressure king pro and I'm really happy with it.

LesLavandes · 15/09/2018 14:18

I have just ordered my Instant Pot. I never had a pressure cooker before. I am a bit worried about the strong steam when venting. What are your experiences please?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 15/09/2018 14:19

I love really thick and tart tasting yoghurt but mine (in yoghurt maker) cones out thin and sweet. Any tips?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 15/09/2018 14:20

The newer ones have valves that you just turn like a switch to let the steam out - not as forceful as the old fashioned ones (and no weights that you used to worry about flying off!).

PawneeParksDept · 15/09/2018 17:53

@LesLavandes honestly it's nothing it's fine you just knock the cap to one side, it's nothing like the scary hissy spitting things my mum and gran had

wowfudge · 15/09/2018 19:24

I had wanted a pressure cooker for ages but was scared of the stove top ones and wouldn't have trusted myself with one an electric one is perfect.

Lougle · 15/09/2018 20:20

I you are still scared of the steam, you can do a few things to calm it: 1. Put a damp tea towel on the lid before you release the pressure (it lowers the temperature of the lid and condenses the steam quicker). 2. Put a dry tea towel over the vent and leave it there as you release the steam to dampen the release. 3. Tap the release valve gently as you first release the steam, to allow small 'bursts' of steam out, rather than just moving it to the open position. So do 5-10 spurts of steam release 'burst'-close-'burst'-close-'burst'-close... Etc. That's particularly useful if your pot is very full of something that could keep the heat and spill over. As you do that controlled release, the pressure lowers and any trapped air within the mixture can rise to the surface.
