What can I do with 100 bananas?

I kid you not! We have so many bananas from our garden I am at a complete loss as to what to do with them all. I've made cakes, puddings, put them in curries, given to DS for his snacks at school. I can't give them away because everyone else is in the same position around here. I can't freeze them can I? Or make face packs? Hair conditioner? Any suggestions?

100 bananas??

My sister was telling me about a dessert she wanted to make but she didn't have all the ingredients for it. It sounded lovely so I had to go out and buy some bananas

I can't remember exactly how it goes but I'm 90% certain that you do it like this....

Don't peel the banana.
Slice it lengthways (but not all the way through - kind of how you would slice a hotdog bun).
Generously sprinkle some cocoa powder inside the split (but be careful not to make it sickly)
'Pin' the banana back together with cocktail sticks and roast in the oven for about half an hour...

It's very yummy. I did it like this and it worked out great
The children can have one and the adults can have two - that should get rid of a few bananas for you (if you plan on having the same dessert every day for weeks)!

Ooops! Have I ruined his secret?

butterflywings · 11/05/2007 01:06

Ooh! A flake sounds even better!!

Albert · 11/05/2007 01:08

OOo, that pud does sound yummy!
Yep, Brasilia is swimming in bananas for the second time this year. For some reason all the fruit trees seem to have two crops per year. Mango season was particularly smelly as Brasilia is basically a city of mango trees - planted when the city was built because they grow fast. Anyway, mangos were just left to rot every where, needless to say it got rather pungent. And don't talk to my about avocados, one tree will produce more than Tescos entire stock. But of course being British I hate to see these things going to waste but there is only so many smoothies you can drink. Slice of banana tea bread anyone, still warm even!

Oh no, the smell of spoiled fruit is horrible..
I was going to say 'oh well, at least you don't have to pay for your fruit, if it's growing in your garden' but I bet you're getting sick of the same old thing?

lol at swimming in bananas!

Do you think oat flakes will have the same effect as ground oats? I can't get ground almonds here but did finally manage to track down some oates last week whilst desperately attempting to make my own museli.
This is for the Califrau facial recipe BTW.
The flake for the pud definately sounds better but alas can't get them here so chocolate powder it is.

What is a flake? (Califrau, if you're still on, can you explain it in American, pretty please)

No, I'm just stuck here with you with crappy American chocolate. Thanks, a flake is much better than what it sounds.

Albert · 11/05/2007 01:27

Yes, ice cream. I've even got a Ben & Jerrys recipe for that. Time to dig out the ice cream machine I think.
No Birds custard I'm afraid I'll have to go back to basics - isn't it made from corn flour?
What's a flake? You poor deprived thing. It's a sort of chocolate wafer finger but the whole lot is made of chocolate and nothing else. Actually, that's a rubbish description but I'm sure there must be something similar in the US.

American chocolate isn't crappy - you have peanut buttercups

Yes, but unless you've ever been here, you don't know how pathetically bad the chocolate is here compared to there. (Well, ok I've never actually been to England, but have been to Switzerland and Germany, where I was rudely awoken to the fact of how bad Americans are at bread and chocolate)

OMG, that was so funny, I was watching that, and DH walked through the door, and thought I was watching some sort of soft porn on my computer, as the kids played merrily on in the room.

butterflywings · 11/05/2007 01:35

I've always wanted one of those baths...

Perhaps it's so that I can pretend to be the 'flake girl'

Sad, I know
