Dairy free dessert to take to a friend’s party

Really stuck for ideas and would welcome suggestions. Going to a friend’s house for her DHs birthday on Saturday night. Around 15-20 people in total. I’ve offered to bring dessert.
I’m going to make a chocolate cheesecake at their request. I’d also like to take a dairy free dessert so their (dairy and tree nut allergic) daughters can have any leftovers.
Was wondering about a coconut cream based pudding, or a cake of some kind, but I can’t find anything very inspiring.
Would be great if it was an easy crowd pleaser... surely not asking too much?!
Any ideas gratefully received!

Vegan chocolate mousse? Made with cocoa/chocolate and avocado and/or banana or you could use coconut cream or yoghurt.
Loads of great recipes on pinterest.

trickyex · 02/02/2018 14:16

Or just make a vegan choc cheesecake?

MsHippo · 02/02/2018 17:29

What about Heston's chocolate mousse? It literally just has dark chocolate (check and use dairy free) and water but it looks absolutely incredible!

Ricekrispie22 · 02/02/2018 19:03

I like this vegan lemon and raspberry loaf cake because it doesn't use any fancy or expensive ingredients that take ages finding in the supermarket! It also looks dinner-party worthy laurencariscooks.com/vegan-lemon-raspberry-loaf-cake/

I add a dollop of Alpro coconut yogurt to the icing which works really well.

WillowySnicket · 02/02/2018 19:13

I've done the Heston mousse! It's divine.

Jelly! Or posh it up by layering it with fruit.

Meringue with coconut ice cream (Aldis is good) and fruit, dairy free brownies are nice or if you want to buy something Ben and Jerry's vegan ice cream in is nice.

I made these recently but without the frosting. They are yummy, dairy free & vegan. I added dried cranberries to half the mix but the plain ones were yummy too.
They came out enormous though, so I would advise only half filling the cake cases.

If you’re thinking cake, just substitute Vitelite bakes really well instead of butter (at least the sunflower one does, not too sure about the coconut or whatever other types they’ve brought out recently!). For icing / frosting, dairy free marge doesn’t work well, but Betty Crocker is dairy free.
I’ve made this before and it tasted lovely, but the texture was a bit odd (but to be fair, that’s probably my lack of ability!)

Apple strudel then can be served with either dairy free ciustard/ice cream or regular

Chewbecca · 02/02/2018 21:59

Poached pears?
Or a crumble made with sunflower spread in place of the butter?

BlimeyO · 02/02/2018 22:01

Thanks so much! Brilliant ideas. Will check them all out Cake

Also look up Crazy Cake recipe.

Chocolate brownies!

kateandme · 02/02/2018 22:44

go to the bbc good food and search dairy free dessserts

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/02/2018 22:46

You can make meringues using the liquid from canned chick peas as a substitute for egg whites, or so I am told. Pavlova with coconut cream and fresh pineapple would be nice.

Screaminginsideme · 02/02/2018 23:13

Stork in the blocks is dairy free but not from the tubs. Also oatly do cream and creme fresh which work great in normal recipes.

BlimeyO · 03/02/2018 00:54

Just spotted the dairy free tiramisu IrnBruTortie Shock that’s on the list for sure.

Was wondering about layering jelly and maybe using coconut cream in a kind of panna cotta style but the cake ideas look good too. Wonder if it’s over the top to take three desserts...

Food for thought Grin

Cornflake tart or treacle tart.

UniversalTruth · 03/02/2018 15:13

How old is the daughter? She might not like 100% dark chocolate dessert. I concur - stork is your friend here - fruit crumble, nigella's chocolate pear pudding (take it uncooked then cook there) for example

UniversalTruth · 03/02/2018 15:15

Moochypooch do you have a recommended recipe for dairy free treacle tart?

moochypooch · 03/02/2018 16:05

I think they are all dairy free, as long as you make a dairy free pastry

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/02/2018 16:56

Igella’s clementine cake is dairy free too, if I recall correctly - and as long as you have a food processor, it is easy to make. You boil the clementines for a couple of hours, let the, cool, then get them out of the liquid. Whizz them to a nubbly purée in the processor, then add ground almonds, sugar and eggs (I don’t have the exact amounts to hand but the recipe is online, I am sure) and blitz again to mix, then bake in a greased baking tin for an hour.

It is delicious - heavy and damp because of the almonds, and marmalade-y. Serve with cream or dairy free alternative.
