I don't/can't cook at all, I have cooked two dinners tonight, the first lot went in the bin, and we ended up with oven chips and fishfingers, we can't survive on chips and fishfingers till Thursday, what can I do that is piss easy, doesn't involve an awful lot of prep (or cooking!!) that is reasonably healthy??

Pasta and pesto is quick and super-easy.

NatalieJane · 16/04/2007 18:56

LMAO, that is what ended up in the bin... any more suggestions?

Ditto, mine buggered off over the weekend so I even had lunches to do, bastard. Plus he's threatening not to come home on wednesday!

Carmenere · 16/04/2007 18:57

Wow, how did you manage to mess that up

wurlywurly · 16/04/2007 18:57

stir fry?? spag bol??

anything that goes "ping" in the microwave.

Radley · 16/04/2007 18:58

lightly fry some chicken and garlic in a large pan

Add sliced courgettes and mushrooms and a jar of passatta, leave to simmer until courgettes start going soft.

Serve with pasta

Voila, v v healthy and even more tasty

NatalieJane · 16/04/2007 18:58

Oh I can do lunches, DS1 has a packed lunch at school, even I can manage a sarnie, and DS2 is BF, it is dinner I am stuck with.

Baked potatoes are very easy and healthy. you can have them with butter & cheese/cottage cheese/coleslaw/any salad/ham/chilli....

Scrub them and bake in 180 degree oven (gas 4) for up to an hour (for the big ones) until they feel soft.

Hawaii toast is another good one - make toast, add cheese & ham & tinned pineapple.. grill

NatalieJane · 16/04/2007 19:01

Well, we bought some fresh pasta parcel things from Tesco, (I don't know the 'proper' name for it, but it was fresh pasta with ham and bacon wrapped up inside) and I did a bolanaise sauce, which I must say was bloody beautiful, but the pasta things were awful, really really bad. I am useless in the kitchen.

And there I was thinking I'd impress my DH by having a well nourished 5 year old for him to come back to

Open a bag of lettuce leaves and place in a bowl. Chop up some salad ingredients and throw on top of the lettuce, add a chopped up avocado. Chop up a chicken breast and fry it in hot oil until cooked, add a couple of pieces of chopped bacon if you like.
Throw the chicken on top of the salad and add a splash of balsamic vinegar and a bigger splash of olive oil.
Eat with some crusty bread.

BefnalBub · 16/04/2007 19:01

those fresh pasta things only need 2 mins in boiling water

NatalieJane · 16/04/2007 19:02

BefnalBub, they both sound perfect!! I hadn't thought of baked potatoes, thanks very much

Maybe DS won't waste away then after all

For pasta and pesto, just buy a decent brand of pesto sauce, cook some pasta and stir in the sauce when the pasta is still hot.

NatalieJane · 16/04/2007 19:04

DS won't eat salad, I actually got him to try cumcumber again at the weekend, and there followed a wonderful display of how much he didn't like it...

I did the pasta things in the microwave, I got another pack so will do the next lot on the hob, will hopefully be better.

buy fresh pasta it takes like 2 minutes to cook

Scootergirl · 16/04/2007 19:07

Sausages and mash? Cook sausages in the oven for about 40 mins, boil potatoes then mash. Serve with peas/sweetcorn/whatever veg they'll eat....
Or something like roast chicken is actually dead easy - just get chicken, preheat oven to about gas 6, stick half lemon and some garlic cloves up chicken's bottom, roast for however long it says on the packet (you can out jacket potatoes in at the same time if you like) then take out and rest for 10 minutes. Good leftovers too

NatalieJane · 16/04/2007 19:09

I'll do baked potatoes tomorrow and the other lot of pasta with more of the sauce on Wednesday, thanks everyone, seemed like a big problem a few minutes ago, now I am sorted, thanks again

How can you not cook a thing??? why dont you go to a cookery class and learn?

so many easy things to make.

You cant really go wrong with spag bol or pasta with a bought sauce.

Chicken Caesar Salad is yummy

stick a chicken in the oven and roasting it is pretty easy.

Am puzzled how someone cannot cook at all and I am really not having a go at you at all.

Ponce · 16/04/2007 19:10

oh fgs not being able to cook.

Ponce · 16/04/2007 19:10

collision you are ncier thna me
i htink thats super freaky and a tiny but pathetic

NatalieJane · 16/04/2007 19:12

Truth is, I've never had to, my mum always did it when I lived with her, and when I moved in with DH he loves cooking so again I have never had to, I kind of know the theory of cooking lots of different things, but when I try and put them into practise it never quite works out how I want.

LOL Ponce!!

Am genuinely puzzled by someone who cannot cook a thing! And fresh pasta in the microwave? I am not having a go at NJ but why can she not cook?

Ponce · 16/04/2007 19:13

it is pathetic though NJ
you need ot learn

collision · 16/04/2007 19:13

Are you interested in food NJ? do you want to learn?

NatalieJane · 16/04/2007 19:22

I am learning, well, burning would probably be a better description of tonights efforts, but tomorrow is another day

And I haven't even used the excuse of having a very poorly 4 month old and a 5 year old to keep me busy enough as it is!!
