Chop up lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes, celery and add protein of choice like ham or tinned tuna. Voila - 5 minutes.

Stir fry chicken and vegetables.

First heat pan of water and when hot add noodles and cook for 4 minutes. At the same time, slice onions, carrots, green beans, mushrooms and chicken. Stir fry over hot heat with crushed garlic and ginger, add drained noodles, add soy sauce and sweet chilli sauce. Mix altogether and voila - 10 to 15 minutes.

tin of chick peas,
drain and rinse.

put some (not too good on amounts) cous cous in a pan and cover with boiling water.

leave for 10 mins.

come back, mix chick peas and cous cous together with olive oil, chop in red onion, tomatoes, cucumber, pepper, and
flat leaf parsley, minot and basil.

salt and pepper.

grill some strips of halloumi and plonk it all on a plate and eat with lots of leaves

Slice some chicken thinly (I prefer thigh) and coat in reggae reggae sauce or any Jerk sauce. Heat a nice bread in the oven - Sainsbury's do a nice folded bread thingy or try a Nan or a nice French Stick.

Fry the chicken in a hot frying pan until cooked (around 15 mins if cut thinly enough)and serve with raw chopped red onions and a dribble of cold reggae reggae sauce.

Or

poaced egg on toast with a banana for afters

LittleSarah · 10/04/2007 16:28

Gorgeous pasta with toasted crumbs and herbs.

Whizz up some bread and fry them with a little oilve oil and garlic.
Get pasta cooking.
Chop up a shallot, add juice of a lemon, some olive oil, a knob of butter and some fresh herbs (2/3 different types, basil/tarragon and chives for example) and rocket chopped finely.

When the pasta is ready mix in the shallot/herb mixture (does NOT need cooking!) and then add toasted breadcrumbs.

Really simple and delicious!

Or, in the pasta vein -

Macaroni cheese

Put pasta on to cook.
bit of butter and flour in the pan, mix together and make a paste, add milk slowly (whisking helps) and stir until it thickens, add plenty of mature cheddar, season and add to cooked pasta.

Carbonara

Put pasta on to cook.
Fry bacon/pancetta in some white wine and or garlic.
Whisk up a couple of eggs, add plenty of grated parmesan (and some seasoning, nutmeg/pepper/salt).
Add the egg and cheese mix to cook pasta along with bacon and wine. Stir.

(You can add cream but not necessary IMO)

Thought of another one:

whisk together 1tbsp tahini, 2tbsp each rice wine vinegar and soy sauce, 1tbsp soy sauce and a pinch of sugar. Toss with noodles, chopped spring onions and ginger.

Came from the Waitrose magazine so it has to be good

DimpledThighs · 11/04/2007 08:01

olive oil in pan as chopped garlic and heat until you can smell it. Add two tins of tomatoes and one tin worth of water. Add pinch of sugar. Simmer for as long as you like. Whizz with hand blender.

Tomaot soup (as good as heinz my son says )

serve with bread/toast or after whizzing put in some of that tiny pasta that cooks in minutes - or any pasta really.

Oops, just noticed my error, should be:

"whisk together 1tbsp tahini, 2tbsp each rice wine vinegar and soy sauce, 1tbsp water and a pinch of sugar. Toss with noodles, chopped spring onions and ginger."

moondog · 12/04/2007 09:06

Yaffle that sounds vile.
Those flavours so don't work together.

Pasta, creme fraiche, smoked salmon cut into strips, fresh chopped dill, capers and lemon juice.
Serve with green slad.

It would work if wasn't rice wine vinegar (or if lemon juice) and if the soy was kept out.
Weird mix of Asian and European ingredients.

moondog · 12/04/2007 10:09

With noodles,I would do a dressing of sesame oil (not tahini)fish sauce, lime, ginger and chilli.
Toss with noodles and shredded chicken or prawns. Also matchsticks of carrot, beansprouts, baby corn, mange tout and radishes. Stir through peanuts and coriander.

ProfYaffle · 12/04/2007 16:14

well i've eaten it and it's yummy. 'vile' is a bit harsh isn't it? thought this was a helpful thread, as i say, i didn't invent it waitrose did, take it up with them.

rebelmum1 · 12/04/2007 16:26
