two of mine...

the first takes only as long as pasta takes to cook:
cook pasta
add a blob of creme freaiche
add a blob of philedelpia
add either tinned salmon or tinned tuna
add cooked frozen brocolli or sweetcorn or peas

Second one
chop up some chicken into bite sized pieces
cover in soy sauce and leave for 5 mins (use sparingly if intended for the kids too as salty)
stir fry the chiken with chopped up spring onion (you can add mushrooms, beansprouts etc if you like)
serve with noodles or rice

PrincessPeaHead · 12/04/2007 19:50

mix harissa paste and lemon juice
smear on both sides of fresh tuna steaks (leave for a while if you can)
sear on a hot grill pan for about 3 mins each side
serve with salad

YUM

Sorry 'bout that Yaffle.
Wasn't slighting you.
I think it is an odd mix, that is all.

Here's a goody...

Fry onions, garlic and ginger until translucent. Add chicken pieces( thighs cut in two are good) and brown.
Add a good pinch of 5 spice powder, glug of soy (only Kikkoman will do) and a good glug of sheery so chicken half submerged.
Simmer with lid half on for 20 mins and serve with rice and stir fry veg.

Squidliatelli - invented and named by me and dh (copyright 1998) - lol!

500g fresh tagliatelli
12 fresh squid tubes
1 lemon
1 lime
1 small pot fresh green pesto

remove insides of squid tubes, wash, cut off ends and extra flappy bits (I know all of the terms don't i?), slice into rings.

bring pan of water to the boil, add fresh tagliatelli and simmer for 4 mins

meanwhile, also

quickly pan fry the squid rings for about 4 mins, squeezing juices from lime and lemon during frying

chuck squid rings into the pan with the tagliatelli, stir in the pesto sauce et voila - SQUIDLIATELLI! (serve with garlic bread and refreshing beverage)

My kids fave,

Put kettle on.

Thinly slice chicken breasts into 'goujons' put in bowl with 1tbsp soy, 1 tbsp lemon juice 1 teasp honey, mix around a bit to coat.

Pour boiling water over egg noodles and put to one side for 5 - 10 mins (or microwave or boil for 4 mins)

Fry chicken in non stick pan (or use griddle pan to get stripes)

Drain noodles, add a splash seasame ooil, top with chicken.

For grown ups I buy a big pack of stir fry veg, use same ingreadiants as marinade for a sauce. Top noodles with veg and chicken.

Works well in our house as DD's won't eat the veg, I am vegge and don't eat the chicken and dh eats the lot!!

10 - 12 mins start to eating.

I am planning a nice meal tomorrow, maybe a little longer than 15 mins. Posh omlette!! or Frittata if you are being posher!!

Turn kettle on (seem the theme here)

While it boils fry a couple of spring onions in butter (add other veg if you can like courgette/mushrooms if your kids will eat them!!)

Fill pan with boiling water and cook baby new potatoes.

Beat 8 eggs (serves 4) with salt pepper and a splah or two of water, chop some cheese.

Pour eggs over veggies and cook slowley until set underneath, throw in lumps of cheese.

Put whole frying pan in oven (or under grill) until frittata sets.

Wedges of frittata, new poststos and salad.

Strawberries/blueberries and cream for pud,

That should be on teh table less than 1/2 hour from opening the door.

it is hot but not really hot. less hot than a thai green curry for example. doesn't make my nose run anyway (which green curry does)...
OK you get the idea, I'll stop now

Tamari is my soy of choice

moondog · 13/04/2007 14:28

Tamari a type is it not as opposed to a brand?
Different brewing method?
Wheat in there?
Not sure tbh

Greenleeves · 13/04/2007 14:33

Mine are having pasta with green pesto, white sprouting broccoli, leeks, chives, parsley, peas, prawns and flaked cod, all jumbled up with a bit of melted cheese on top. Takes about 10 minutes to assemble once the pasta's cooked.

I hate it when people cite "not enough time" as a reason for troughing processed muck out of a plastic tray. It takes longer to heat that shite up than it does to cook a simple fresh meal. If you don't know how to peel a spud/chop a carrot - bloody learn. [grump]

Greenleeves · 13/04/2007 14:34

Sorry, that was unnecessarily ornery and direcetd at nobody in particular

WideWebWitch · 13/04/2007 14:35

Ingreduients:
cod steaks
packet of green beans
lemons
olive oil
prosciutto
garlic (optional)

Put the oven on
spread green beans on bottom of roasting dish
wrap cod steaks in prosciutto
put them on top of the greeen beans
cut up lemons into quarters and scatter over
leave garlic in its skin but scatter cloves over
drizzle with olive oil, season
cook for 20 mins

you can add small cubes of potato in its skin too if you want to. This is a meal on its own, you don't have to have anything else with it, it's gorgeous. and the garlic is cooked and sweet.

mouseman · 13/04/2007 14:46

Moondog - tahini is sesame paste, so, it wouldn't be too different to your idea of sesame oil - I think that mix sounded great.

moondog · 13/04/2007 17:41

I know that Mouseman, but sesame paste is not like sesame oil.

I did a great Nigel Slaer one last night.
750 g smoked haddock
Cover with milk and put in oven for 20 mins.
Discard milk and flake fish.
Mix 2x 400g tin rinsed flageolet beans with 300 ml of doubple cream, big dollop of mustard and handful of chopped parsley.
Spread 2/3 across bottom of larg shallow dish, flaked fish on top then bean mixture on top.
Place in oven for 40 minutes.

Bloody great.
