What to put on a vegetarian child's sandwich?

It's my dd's birthday party in a few weeks and I don't have any ideas for sandwich fillings.

We have decided to provide the children's party food in the little card lunch pales.
My issue is we are vegetarian and don't fancy making meat sandwiches. We are planning on including a babybel, box of raisins and another snack item which I haven't thought of yet in the lunch pale. Because of the babybel and some of our friends thinking that all vegetarians eat is cheese we really don't want to do cheese sandwiches.
My dd loves hummus and grated carrot sandwiches, salad and quorn slices etc but I don't think they're very appealing to the masses and also hummus could be messy.

Does anyone have any ideas of vegetarian sandwich fillings which aren't cheese, aren't super messy to eat but most children will eat?

All kids will be younger than 5 with most being 2.

You certainly seem a bit confused Chester. Bizarre way to derail a thread.

Cheese, jam, Nutella, cheese spread and cucumber, marmite, vegemite, egg, hummus,

Thanks to all for the continuing suggestions Smile

I have to have my say that within the definition of a vegetarian eggs are fine, obviously there are people who are vegetarian and won't eat eggs but that's not what vegetarian means.

I'll speak to DH and discuss maybe not having the little card lunch boxes as many of you don't think it's a great idea. Maybe I'll ditch the babybel too and then cheese sandwiches can be back on the table. Back to the drawing board...

I would just do big platters of food so they can help themselves (it's going to be messy whatever you do)

For example

Sandwiches
Pizza triangles
Carrot sticks/red pepper sticks, slices of cucumber
Bowl of Pom Bears or Hulahoops or popcorn
Mini biscuits
Birthday cake!

I've done the party boxes before. They are great as you don't have loads of leftovers, and you just buy what you need.
I'd did: A half round of sandwiches
A pack of mini jammy dodgers/party rings
A pack of hula hoops
A box of raisins
A carton of juice
A party popper or one of those party 'blower' things. They went down a storm.
A paper napkin.

Costo do kids sandwich platters - cheese , jam , ham (sure you could ditch the ham and swap)

kateandme · 05/10/2017 10:50

i love previous poster idea of jam sandwhiches cut whith cookie cutter into cool shapes they would go own a storm at kids tea party.you could do cheese this way too or egg.what about still providing the boxes but putting maybe 3 platter of sanwhiches there so they pick one of each they like into the box of already decided items.
plus what about a penguin or kit kat or something.its a kids party they should be some treats.or mini boxes of smarties or snack choc bar.

EvilDoctorBallerinaVampireDuck · 05/10/2017 10:56

That would be vegan Chester. 😃

kateandme · 05/10/2017 10:56

tell you what cosco also do is tray pizzas that are scrummy and are perfect size for a gathering.

Why dont you try the greens and tofu? Here is the recipe:

Mash green leaves in mixer and cook it well on a pan with lil oil and a pinch of salt. Then, fry some tofu on another pan and mix it with the mashed greens. When you feel they are cooked reasonably well, prepare the bread by roasting it. Then stuff the cooked ingredients between the bread. Im sure Children would love it because when you cook the green veg, it becomes more edible than before.

MySecretToTell · 06/10/2017 20:17

Thanks for the recent replies, lots of ideas Smile

I think I want to try the greens and tofu meal soon, sounds yummy and dd loves tofu to the point of me having to limit her intake of it Grin

Oh my God, can you imagine if you actually served up a greens and tofu sandwich as a small child's party food Grin? At least you'd know people would talk about your party.

Banana sandwiches?
Or that yeast based pate stuff?

existentialmoment · 07/10/2017 00:08

How are eggs vegetarian?

Is that a joke?

viques · 07/10/2017 00:16

I if you have a decent size tescos near they do a small veggie frozen sausage roll that I would challenge any meat eater to suss out! Lovely flakey pastry too! they come in packs of 30 in a bag.

viques · 07/10/2017 00:18

And just remembered fairy sandwiches, ideal for a party!

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/10/2017 00:18

Or maybe ditch the baby elephant, do cheese sandwiches and use something like crisps or Quorn cocktail sausages as the savoury snacks?

Weedsnseeds1 · 07/10/2017 00:19

Elephant? Interest autocorrect for babybel!

rainbowduck · 07/10/2017 00:23

Carrots, raisins and hummus.
Cheese savoury.
Egg and cress.
