Looking for soft drinks without artificial sweeteners!

I'm planning a little Halloween party for my stepson and as a treat thought we could have cherryade and maybe orange/appleade as they are Halloween themed, however I can't find any so far which don't have artificial sweeteners in! My personal view has always been that soft drinks are a treat so when we/I do have them I buy those with sugar/naturally sweetened as I have bad reactions to aspartame!
Can anyone point me to some or similar? If all else fails I'll add cherry juice to sparkling water Grin

You could try and see if your local Home Bargains or B and M or Farmfoods still has some of the good kind. That's what I'm doing with Irn Bru.

You can’t find any soft drinks and most squashes contain artificial sweeteners now and also allergic and won’t give to my grandkids. There is a petition on the government website asking for the sugar tax to be re visited. Please sign as if like me you don’t want to consume this rubbish! We don’t have a choice anymore. I would rather pay a little more and have the sugar!

Hi guys, sorry it not a government petition but someone like us who’s started a petition. If you go to petitions.parliament and look for reconsider the sugar tax you’ll find it. Guess nothing will come of it but worth a try if we all stick together.

Yes, very upset with Ribena , the sugar tax no doubt , i hadn’t appreciated it would encourage sweeteners - sugar may cause weight increase but we don’t know if artificial sweeteners are carcinogenic yet . . We are all in a big trial now !

Less than 300 signed the petition so far. Needs 10000

Report

Petition only has about 300 names. A long way from the 10000 needed. I used to drink Orangina because it had no sweeteners but they've now added them and it tastes horrible.

The Government knew this would happen with sweeteners - it does at least reduce excess calorie intake, partly from people stopping drinking soft drinks... Ideally companies will start producing less-sweet drink options. Unfortunately a tax on sweetness rather than simply sugars wasn't practical.

I think only full fat coke is still sweetener free because they opted to put the price up and make a smaller bottle rather than reformulate.

So wish Barr had done this. I have one glass bottle of proper Irn Bru left that I'm saving for a time of need really hungover

I am delighted to see that Sainsbury's still do High Juice Orange Squash and High Juice Apple & Alphonso Mango with no artificial sweeteners. They're a bit more expensive due to the sugar levy, but are delicious.

I've signed the 'Reconsider the Sugar Tax' petition, still only at 675 signatures though.

Belvoir blueberry and blackcurrant cordial is delicious. I add fizzy water to it for a treat. Their ginger one is great too, it's got a kick (but not probably for children).

Ribena now contains Acesulfame K and Sucralose. I feel betrayed. I hope their sales plummet.

On the positive side, there are a few flavoured unsweetened waters starting to emerge. Expensive for what they are though, even though they aren't subject to the sugar tax. I've seem them in Asda, M&S and probably other supermarkets.

I need to try the high juice or fruit juice and sparking water combo - hadn't thought of that previously.

Hi guys,

Please note Sucralose is not natural. It is an artificial sweetener first developed in 1976. Tate and Lyle are one of the main users of Sucralose. The name is meant to signify that this is a natural product (name is akin to sucrose) but actually it is fully artificial. It is made from sugar, but is lab developed.

Stevia however, is a fully natural product which has been used safely for hundreds of years.

OP, go to any bigger supermarket and find Polish section. They usually have raspberry syrup, dilute it with raspberry water. If you have Polish shop nearby they have lemon, orange, cherry, cranberry, kiwi, hibiscus, rosehip and feck knows what other flavours. Full sugar.
Oh and limited edition ginger also cola and quince.

I read a comment on here that sucralose is a natural sweetener.

According to the best information site I know of on man made sweeteners, which is //www.sweetpoison.com, run by Dr Janet Starr Hull, she has this to say about sucralose, or splenda. Here's the page this info came from - www.sweetpoison.com/aspartame-sweeteners.html.

Sucralose
Splenda, also known as sucralose, is an artificial sweetener, which is a chlorinated sucrose derivative. Facts about this artificial chemical are as follows:

Pre-Approval Research

Pre-approval research showed that sucralose caused shrunken thymus glands (up to 40% shrinkage) and enlarged liver and kidneys.

Recent Research

A possible problem with caecal enlargement and renal mineralization has been seen in post approval animal research.

Sucralose Breaks Down

Despite the manufacturer's mis-statements, sucralose does break down into small amounts of 1,6-dichlorofructose, a chemical which has not been adequtely tested in humans. More importantly, sucralose must break down in the digestive system. If it didn't break down and react at all (as the manufacturer claims), it would not chemically-react on the tongue to provide a sweet taste. The truth is that sucralose does break down to some extent in the digestive system.

Independent, Long-Term Human Research

None. Manufacturer's "100's of studies" (some of which show hazards) were clearly inadequate and do not demonstrate safety in long-term use.

Chlorinated Pesticides

The manufacturer claims that the chlorine added to sucralose is similar to the chlorine atom in the salt (NaCl) molecule. That is not the case. Sucralose may be more like ingesting tiny amounts of chlorinated pesticides, but we will never know without long-term, independent human research.

Conclusion

While it is unlikely that sucralose is as toxic as the poisoning people are experiencing from Monsanato's aspartame, it is clear from the hazards seen in pre-approval research and from its chemical structure that years or decades of use may contribute to serious chronic immunological or neurological disorders.

It is very important that people who have any interest in their health

stay aware from the highly toxic sweetener aspartame and other questionable sweeteners such as sucralose (Splenda), and acesulfame-k (Sunette, Sweet & Safe, Sweet One). Please see the extensive resources for sweeteners on the Healthier Sweetener Resource List. www.holisticmed.com/sweet/
