...as a popular (with kids) alternative to a regular frootshoot. All suggestions welcome for an alternative, preferably without artificial colours, flavouring and especially sweeteners. There must be one, apart from plain old water of course.

tropicana go is just pure juice and water. nothing added
or you can get pure juice boxes with straws from the supermarkets

liath · 19/03/2007 08:52

Tropicana or innocent smoothie

BizzyDint · 19/03/2007 08:52

tropican go.

innocent smoothies.

i also regard orangina as ok, for older kids obviously not little ones. it doesn't contain crap. however i think they only do glass little bottles, not plastic, yet.

Twiglett · 19/03/2007 08:53

water
juice boxes
bottle of water refilled with water and juice
smoothies (innocent)
milk

ChippyMinton · 19/03/2007 09:54

tropicana go would be ideal, but i have looked at their website and it has to be kept refrigerated. I need something that can be stored (its for a monthly social event, and we need to buy in bulk and store unused supplies between events). Any other suggestions?

Why not try sparkling water? We only drink sparkling water at home and the kids love it, they don't even like still water any more.

Marina · 19/03/2007 09:58

If we have access to a fridge, it's Tropicana Go all the way (it even looks like a Fruit Shoot to the untrained eye) but if not, could you buy Rocks squash and dilute? It's all natural ingredients (including sugar inevitably) and tastes good, especially the orange.

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 10:02

Fruit juice? It's not rocket science, is it?

Cappuccino · 19/03/2007 10:04

yes little cartons of fruit juice

however these have the disadvantage of being no use for making shakers with at a later date

ChippyMinton · 19/03/2007 10:16

F&Z, definately not rocket science
Anyone know if fruitshoot h2o has nasties in it? Not clear from their website.

I've never met a child who won't drink apple juice

You can buy longlife stuff, it lasts forever

and put it in CUPS

with WATER

Twiglett · 19/03/2007 10:21

I know 2 children who will only drink water

Why don't you get in touch with your local milkman and see if they'll do you a delivery on the day you need it .. then you can pre-order cartons of milk plus bottles of water plus juices and not have to store it

Piffle · 19/03/2007 10:26

If you ahve to store unrefrigerated use the cartons from concentrate apple orange etc and dilute with water on the day

ChippyMinton · 19/03/2007 10:29

Thanks for your suggestions. Will definately look at juice cartons. It needs to be a bottle or carton to avoid spills and be easy to handle.

morningpaper · 19/03/2007 10:30

cartons aren't easy to handle, they squirt everywhere

Buy some sippy cups

ChippyMinton · 19/03/2007 10:32

MP these are not for my DC, they are for a social event. The kids are generally aged 4 and above so could handle cartons.

isaidno · 19/03/2007 10:33

fruit shoot h20 still has artificial sweeteners AFAIK

ChippyMinton · 19/03/2007 10:35

thnks isaidno, i thought that might be the case. The thing is, i was not involved when this event was set up, and i would love to do away with the FS but need to have some alternatives in mind before i go wading in on my crusade

kittypants · 19/03/2007 10:36

why not just water?

FrannyandZooey · 19/03/2007 10:37

I have seen apple juice cartons used as a drink for children this age at several parties

they seem popular with the children and the parents

Hulababy · 19/03/2007 10:38

Tropicana Go - can get orange or blackcurrant. Often on special offer too!

Hulababy · 19/03/2007 10:38

For DD's party this weekend we are havign cartons - orange juice or apple juice - or little bottles of water.

ChippyMinton · 19/03/2007 10:40

Water is definately an option. Would be nice to find some flavoured ones, but they seem to have sweeteners in them.

Is there any problem with Capri Sun? These don't contain artificial colours or sweetners, and are easy to store. We buy them in bulk for ds's lunchboxes (sainsbury's have bogof on them ATM).
website for them here

And to those who say "what's wrong with water?", how would you feel if you went to a social event, and were only offered water, no alternative? I know we want healthy kids, but surely they can have some fun too, can't they?

Gobbledigook · 19/03/2007 10:51

I usually buy cartons of organic apple juice or orange juice, or the mini bottles of Buxton water.
