What peanut butter do you buy?

I see palm oil in loads of them, and the ones that don't have palm oil are £3-£5 a jar.

I can't say I know all the details about palm oil but I know it isn't great, but my DS loves peanut butter and it's going to be expensive if I'm spending £3 each week.

I find Whole Earth really dry and tastless. Like a sandy flip flop.

Morrisons finest is about £1.69 - beautiful stuff.

Sunpat- smooth, crunchy, or reduced sugar, they're all great.

viques · 25/02/2017 23:31

Sun pat for me. I find the whole earth and other 'worthy' peanut butters rather too claggy, so stick to sun pat, good texture (for me) and no palm oil.

I always make my own. Bags of salted nuts from Aldi/Lidl, a dollop of coconut oil and blitz it up in the Magimix or Vitamix.

So tasty and cheap- we get through loads. DS always magically appears after I make some asking to lick the spatula Grin

Whole earth or meridian. Meridian's cashew butter is immense :)

RubyGoat · 26/02/2017 00:42

Whole Earth, preferably. For nut butters generally, my absolute favourite so far is smooth almond butter. I've got a jar of pecan butter in the cupboard which I'm massively looking forward to trying...

HopefulHamster · 26/02/2017 00:46

Sunpat for me, Pip and Nut for kids.

NewBallsPlease00 · 26/02/2017 00:48

Pip and but currently 1.75 on offer

NewBallsPlease00 · 26/02/2017 00:48

At Sainsburys

Sunpat no-added-sugar has peanuts, peanut oil, salt and a stabiliser (E471) in it.

I assume the stabiliser stops it from splitting, so you don't get a layer of oil at the top, that you have to keep stirring through, each time you use it. I know E-numbers have a bad name, but actually, if a substance has an E-number, it is because it has been tested as safe for use in foods in Europe (something we'll have to pay to do for ourselves after Brexit).

I started using it because I do try to avoid things with palm oil in them, and have recently changed to the no-added-sugar version, because it is naturally a little sweet, anyway.

PhilODox · 26/02/2017 23:19

Whole earth has palm oil in it! and is claggy too

TheLittlePaperbagPrincess · 27/02/2017 11:29

Whole Earth.

weegiemum · 27/02/2017 11:32

None. 'Tis the devil's food.

Coralfish · 27/02/2017 11:39

Make your own? A girl called Jack had a recipe which involved washing the salt off the cheap-o value peanuts I think.

MackerelOfFact · 27/02/2017 11:54

Meridian smooth here - I stock up on the 1kg tubs when they're £3.99 in Whole Foods (which seems to be often).

JaneJeffer · 27/02/2017 12:29

We get Meridian smooth as well. Needs a good stir to mix the oil in but it's delicious.
