Help I need a really good showstopper-- (sorry) dessert for Christmas lunch. No-one really likes Xmas pudding, even my homemade one Sad.
Not keen on trifle either.
We are having a large joint of beef on the bone for the main course.
For six adults, no kids coming.
Any suggestions , links or recipes gratefully received. TIA.

An old friend of mine made us a Christmas pudding soufle once...it was amazing. Had flavours of xmas pud but so light and smooth, perfect light end to a big dinner :-) I don't have a recipie but always wanted to try and recreate!

Mince pie ice cream? Is v nice.
Or Yule log (chocolate)
Or a lovely cheese board.

PlumsGalore · 03/12/2016 08:04

You know if pudding wasn't a big thing I would just look in freezers for a fancy readymade dessert. I have seen some fabulous ones in M&S, Lidl and Iceland.

Mary berrys Christmas Pavlova is lovely. It's nice and light after a heavy meal and really easy to make ahead. thegreatbritishbakeoff.co.uk/marys-christmas-pavlova/

We have had bombe Alaska a few times.

You can do the whole flaming thing you do with Christmas puddings, as well.

We have made it with Christmas pudding ice cream, but obviously not if people don't like it.

newroundhere · 03/12/2016 08:13

I hate Christmas pudding, we always have chocolate sponge pudding Xmas Grin

RozzlePops · 03/12/2016 08:39

I'm doing a huge tall lemon meringue this year! Yum!

BartiDdu · 03/12/2016 08:39

I've made this every year for at least the past 10 years: www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk/recipes/mini-meringues-with-boozy-cranberries/ .
The combination of tart cranberry, sweet meringue and slightly bitter chocolate is simply amazing! There's instructions for both mini meringues and a big pavlova.

mouldycheesefan · 03/12/2016 08:40

None. Do a fantastic cheeseboard instead

Dozer · 03/12/2016 08:42

Cheeseboard and posh chocolates / florentines / almond thins etc.

badhotfanny · 03/12/2016 08:54

Lemon posset goes down well here.

MissisBee · 03/12/2016 09:02

DH doesn't like Christmas pudding. I always make some sort of chocolate orange type of pudding. Usually everyone else has a bit of both. Actually the easiest was individual chocolate fondants. Made them a week or so before and froze them prebaked, then could just lift out as many as I needed and 8 mins in the oven

girlelephant · 03/12/2016 09:15

Cheese cake or profiteroles

xyzandabc · 03/12/2016 09:21

Mary berry's chocolate log. Easy and impressive looking. I usually pipe some chocolate snowflakes/snowmen/Christmas trees to decorate. Literally melt chocolate, put in icing bag, pipe pattern on to siliconed baking paper then fridge.

I'm doing Nigella's chocolate Guinness cake, un-iced but scattered with gold leaf or gold stars, and served with cream

PeaceOfWildThings · 03/12/2016 11:14

Fresh fruit salad, no added sugar, a little rose water or prosecco sprinkled over.

Or something with a salted caramel, or very dark chocolate base to it, again not very sweet.

MrsJayy · 03/12/2016 11:18

I'm not into pudding but I would appreciate a citrusy cheesecake not to sweet and heavy

Bingybongybashy · 03/12/2016 11:24

Tesco's toffee and pecan roulade here! It's amazing!! 😋😋😋😋

MissStein · 03/12/2016 11:45

poached pears with meringues and chocolate flakes. Easy to make but seems very sophisticated.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 03/12/2016 11:49

We have a cheeseboard with walnuts and celery sticks after Christmas lunch. The traditional steamed pudding is served after our Christmas Eve supper when we aren't all stuffed to bursting.

KitKat1985 · 03/12/2016 12:53

I'd do a chocolate cream yule log.

Tartyflette · 03/12/2016 20:09

Many thanks indeed for all the lovely suggestions, they sound great. I am off to click on links and search for recipes. Xmas Smile
