It is a bloody pain in the backside to clean if I am honest. I would not bother.Mine is a Kenwood one and I've had it a year. Maybe design has come on a bit since then. Takes 30 mins to make and clean up afterwards and two seconds to drink...... The kids like the juice it makes but I have gone back to smoothies with the hand held blender.

Do I have one - yes.
Have I used it in the last 3 years - no.

If you are thinking of buying one, the absolutely most important thing is how long it will take to clean because it takes ages, and you even have to clean it out in the middle of juicing or it gets bunged up.

WigWamBam · 08/02/2007 14:45

I don't.

It would just end up being another corner-hogging dust-gatherer in my kitchen cupboards ... just like the deep fat fryer and the pressure cooker and the food processor and the toastie maker and the bread machine ...

spudmasher · 08/02/2007 14:45

Get a new hand held blender Naily. I see no posts saying how marvellous the juicer is yet!

nailpolish · 08/02/2007 14:47

yes i think i might just do that

what hand blender do you have? would you recommend it?

I have this one. It is quite easy to clean, and is a very efficent juicer.

Thr recipes I like are apple, ginger and pear or just apple ginger. Well they are my tops ones at the moment.

spudmasher · 08/02/2007 14:50

Well, that's a bit old now as well but it is good and I use it loads for soups as well as smoothies. It is a braun one. It does all sorts of ice crushing and whisking type things too if it takes your fancy.

nailpolish · 08/02/2007 14:50

aha! one person likes their juicer....

I have one, it's a rosemary connolly something or other. sorry can't be more specific than that . I use it about 2/3 times a week to juice fruit for dh. But I will say this, it's a bitch to clean, esp the filter thingy that goes in it. I do only have to clean it once I've finished though but I hate having to clean it. But I've bought it now so use it I must

wannaBeWhateverIWannaBe · 08/02/2007 14:52

also worth bearing in mind that it is no cheaper to buy fruit and juice them than it is to buy the highest quality "freshly squeezed" juices.

spudmasher · 08/02/2007 14:55

Wanna has a good point. Mango and raspberry juice does sound lovely, but my goodness, it will cost you!

nailpolish · 08/02/2007 14:55

but freshly squeezed still is not as good as doing it yourself

nailpolish · 08/02/2007 14:56

i dotn want mango and raspberry juice

dds love apple juice and i think itll be a fun thing to do with them - they love pottering in the kitchen!

I like smoothies because you can retain the fibre content of the fruit. In a juicer, all that gets left behind.

Lullabyloo · 08/02/2007 14:59

i luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurve my juicer
ds loves helping me post the fruit n veg down the shute & seeing the different coloured juices pour out.
loves thinking up his own combos etc and pouring it into special glasses with coloured straws etc
They are a faff to wash...but well worth the bother in my opinion.
carrot,apple & ginger is ds's fav.

nailpolish · 08/02/2007 15:00

You need a demo. Do you have a friend who could invite you and your kids round for a juicing party?

TheArmadillo · 08/02/2007 15:01

we have a juicer. Dp was desperate for one. I was amazed at how many fruits could not go in it (according to handbook) cos they clog it up. And it takes ages to clean.

But dp makes his own fruit wines, and it is a godsend for this. But for everyday use I prefer making smoothies in my liquidiser.

spudmasher · 08/02/2007 15:02

A friend with a juicer that is.

Lullabyloo · 08/02/2007 15:02

ebay?
might get a cheapish one?
or borrow one from a pal for trial run?

nailpolish · 08/02/2007 15:03

oh yes i might try ebay

OP posts:
misdee · 08/02/2007 15:03

i have one, dont use it.

prefer the smoothie machine.

goingfor3 · 08/02/2007 15:05

The filter in mine is big compared to most others which makes it less fidly to clean especially if you remove the pulp straight away.

nailpolish · 08/02/2007 15:05

those of you who dont use it - could you sell it to me? or would that be a faff. it would be expensive to post i suppose...
