In this house, its brocolli, closely followed by green beans. They still have to eat them mind you, so tough really

Broccoli here too, as well as cauliflower and anything remotely cabbagey...

DD hates peas, yet loves cabbage , califlower and brussel sprouts. DS will eat any veg but is obsessed with baby sweetcorn atm.

HuwEdwards · 05/02/2007 10:44

tomatoes - both dds loathe them.

NbgsYellowFeathers · 05/02/2007 10:44

Ha! Most other stuff okay here inc cabbage, carrots, even spinach if kept to a small amount. The only thing I've promised not to dish up ever is courgette which makes them all gag for some reason

Another one for mushrooms here - will eat just about every other veg.

Oati · 05/02/2007 10:53

easier for me to list what ds1 will at then what he won't

he likes

carrot
broccoli ( all varieties)
cauliflower
green beans (all varieties)
cucumber

forget anything else

jhyesmum · 05/02/2007 10:57

My little fella will only eat peas, corn on the cob/sweetcorn (but not out of a tin!) and green beans. But he will eat Brocolli and cauliflower at my sister's! Little swine.

Hulababy · 05/02/2007 10:57

DD loves most veg but isn't as keen on sweet potato, parsnips, squash etc unless in a casserole (then she loves them!). She is also not keen on spinach, fennel, radish, beetroot and lettuce. Mind you, bet she eats them at school, lol!

tirnanog · 05/02/2007 10:58

Courgette is despised and loathed with great passion.

its fruit we have problem with...only banana!

Dinosaur · 05/02/2007 11:07

Swede is loathed.

DumbledoresGirl · 05/02/2007 11:09

None of mine will eat parsnip at all and I usually insist they eat a bit of any vegetable I put in front of them. But parsnip is a huge no-no. Odd, because it is one of my favourites.

jhyesmum · 05/02/2007 11:09

Swede, parsnip, tunip - all against the law!

jhyesmum · 05/02/2007 11:10

sorry - turnip (PMT!)

prettybird · 05/02/2007 11:14

To loath something, you have to get them to eat it first!

To be fair, we can get ds to eat small amounts of anything (basically 'cos he is not allowed up fromt he table until he has).

The only thing he consistently won't eat is raw tomato - even cherry tomatoes.

He's not keen on leeks either.

He loves peas, and has eaten nepes (swede in England) successfully when he had his haggis for his Burns Supper (so successful, we repeated it again last week).

He doen't like mushrooms or green/red/yellow/orange peppers - but then, I ouwld never force them on him anyway, as his mother refuses to eat them!

The shame was that I gave him loads of veg as he was being weaned, all of which he ate successfully, but as soon as he was in a position to eat for himslef, all voluntary contact with vegetabels stopped.

We've made a recent breakthorugh with carrots, by telling him that they would help him see in the dark!

MegaLegs · 05/02/2007 11:15

DS1 loathes to the point of gagging cauliflower and sprouts. He just about copes woth broccoli. My other 3 eat them all - weirdos

expatinscotland · 05/02/2007 11:17

broccoli, cauliflower and sprouts.

but dh and i hate them, too, so no loss there.

hunkermunker · 05/02/2007 11:26

DS2 won't eat olives. He randomly takes against brocolli but will eat it sometimes. Other than that, I've not found anything he won't eat, usually with great gusto. He adores sprouts.

DS1 won't eat loads of vegetables - will eat peas, carrots, sweetcorn (usually), brocolli, cauliflower, cabbage, beans of any description but string, tomatoes in things but not raw, onions ditto. He loves protein - he'd eat meat, cheese and more meat all day if he could (Dr Atkins would be proud...!).

Marina · 05/02/2007 11:30

Courgettes and peppers are loathed by both if their presence is detected. So I roast first, peel (skin is v. bitter on these I find) and then whiz into tomato sauce
I am afraid I imply that all diced veg in our root veg casseroles are either interesting coloured carrots or interesting coloured potatoes
Swede mashes down convincingly with potato to be concealed dino
We are the extremely fortunate beneficiaries of a brilliant school dinners kitchen. Mine will now happily eat green beans and cabbage at home thanks to Tammy the Cook.
Don't get me started on ds and his monopreference for apples over any other fruit at all, though

Dinosaur · 05/02/2007 11:31

DS1 won't touch mashed potato - it's a texture thing - it makes him gag.

And I can't be bothered to mash for some and not for all .

foxinsocks · 05/02/2007 11:33

oh marina, I am so of your good school dinners. Both mine are great fruit and veg eaters (though dd thinks sweetcorn is the work of the devil and ds won't let lettuce touch his plate) and their school dinners are HORRID . Have reluctantly agreed that after half term, they can go back to packed lunches and stay that way for as long as scholarest have the school dinner contract. Such a pain.
