Looking for glorious special Pudding for Christmas day for those who don't eat Christmas Pudding or mince pies. What are you having?

Dh and the dcs will have Christmas pudding but I can't stand the stuff so I'm making Jamie Oliver's marmalade glazed bread and butter pudding too. A little individual one for me and a full sized one to take to dp's on boxing day.

Homemade ice-cream bombe with, probably, chocolate ice cream, raspberry or mango or passionfruit sorbet and . . . something yet to be agreed. Bit of a tradition now, including the prolonged discussions about what should be included :o

Trifle. Proper children's sponge/fruit/jelly/custard trifle with a tin of squirty cream available for individual decoration.

Family tradition is that the DC throw half a sweet shop at decorate the trifle in the hiatus between first course and pudding, while adults groan, let out a belt notch, and eye up a big helping.

DC1 lost a (wobbly) tooth on a sugar pearl last Christmas, so has requested them again. Sugar balls/pearls, jelly diamonds and chocolate buttons: gourmet, class.

My grandad buys a yummy lemon meringue pie from a local restaurant. We also usually have a cheesecake and chocolate cake. Theres usually about 16+ though.

lemonP I don't have the calendar but I think I need to see the recipe for that ...

Ha! Viennetta Xmas Grin

I have decided that I must also incorporate a really really good coffee ice cream at some point

I made Eton Mess last year that went down very well - even the pudding lovers had that instead. I was the only one to have Christmas pud.

Lynnm63 · 07/12/2015 20:21

lemonEmma any chance you can let us have the recipe for that chocolate brownie trifle that is my perfect pud. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Christmas pudding ice cream

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeG0es · 07/12/2015 20:39

Ice cream which barely gets touched, we are always too full. No one likes Christmas pudding and there isn't any other single pudding we all like (I detest booze in puds).

Nicknamegrief · 07/12/2015 20:40

Cheese board....although always after a good walk. I am a glutton.

Wigeon · 07/12/2015 21:09

Nigella!

Chestnut ice cream cake is amazing. Sounds a bit like the Mont Blanc - you make three big flat meringues, whip chestnut purée and cream and rum, sandwich alternate layers, grate dark chocolate, freeze. No need for an ice cream maker, just a freezer. It is AMAZING. I can't find the exact recipe, but this blogger has only v slightly adapted it:

Her snow topped spice cake is really lovely too - surprisingly light (you whip egg whites) but tastes very Christmassy:

Also a good excuse for a bundt tin!

Just remembered OP wants no nuts. Are chestnuts nuts?! If so, hope that recipe is useful to others on the thread!

Boozy chocolate brownie trifle from Good Food's 2016 calendar - we are running a year ahead of ourselves! It's chocolate brownies, maltesers, Baileys, chocolate custard and Baileys infused cream

mrsnec · 08/12/2015 05:10

Trifle or pavlova here but we also like bread and butter pudding made with panettone and clementines.

Recipe for Boozy Brownie Trifle for those that requested it...

Serves 10-12

100g dark chocolate
500ml ready made chilled custard
400g shop bought chocolate brownies
3 tbsp coffee
100ml Baileys plus 1 tbsp for soaking the brownies
121g bag maltesers
500ml double cream
25g icing sugar

Melt chocolate gently in the custard. Cover with cling film to prevent a skin, and leave to cool.
Put brownies in a trifle bowl and drizzle over the coffee and 1 tbsp Baileys.
Crush the maltesers a little and sprinkle three quarters over the brownies.
Spoon the cooled custard over. Cover and chill.
Combine cream and 100ml Baileys in a bowl. Sift over icing sugar, and whip until soft peaks form. Cover and chill.
To serve, give cream a mix and spoon on top of the custard. Sprinkle over reserved maltesers to decorate.

Enjoy!

Some of these sound gorgeous. Might try a recipe I've seen for an ice cream chocolate log. Think it was in a Carte d'Or ad.
