Kitchenaid .........

frazzledbutcalm · 26/08/2015 22:55

I know this has probably been done a dozen times, forgive me Blush

I'd like to buy a kitchenaid .. what exactly do they do? I make cakes, meringues etc, pastry, bread. Is it worth it?

giles the cobalt blue looks LOVELY! I'd probably choose that if there wasn't pink/raspberry. It doesn't match anything in my kitchen, not that I have matching anyway Grin but I just love pink. And I think an appliance as refined as this can withstand being different from the colour scheme mis-match kitchen Grin

Humph .. I'm not sure I understand these either, I just know I have to have one Wink

I've waited over a year and am now in a position to buy one. I'll have to read all instructions carefully and get lots of advice on here, as I assumed I could just bung all the ingredients in and let the mixer to the work. Maybe not ...

occ ice cream?! Wow who knew?!

Mine comes with a free glass bow with lid, food processor attachment and chopping boards. Think I might quite like the ice cream maker ...

frazzled - you just need to check and taste it regularly. As soon as there are no lumps it should be smooth enough, but just taste it and see.

My dd refuses to eat the school mashed potato now because it isn't as nice as mine!

BrianButterfield · 29/08/2015 22:26

You can absolutely use the all-in-one method! I just prefer to cream butter and sugar first as it's how I've always done cakes. But all-in-one works very well with a Kitchenaid. You don't need to do anything special, there's no instructions to get used to or weird ways of doing things.

frazzledbutcalm · 29/08/2015 22:32

Thanks little Can't wait for Sunday lunch! I do good mash anyway, but this will make it elite Wink

Brian that's good to know. I thought it would take some getting used to .. I was all prepared for weird ways Grin

I have the ice cream attachment, makes great ice cream

frazzledbutcalm · 29/08/2015 22:36

I'm getting more excited the more I hear! Grin

I love the mash you can make in one but my weird family think it's "too creamy" - like that's a thing?

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/08/2015 22:40

How do you do mash. which attachment

Littlefish · 29/08/2015 22:41

Giles - I use the whisk attachment for mashed potato.

Gileswithachainsaw · 29/08/2015 22:43

I take it you have to make sure the potatoes are really soft?

Konserve · 29/08/2015 22:50

I pondered one a few months ago when my breadmaker broke but have decided on solid bosch mum instead.

it's fab and pretty!

OccamsLadyshaveToo · 29/08/2015 23:49

My only very slight grumble is I don't like the recipe book that you get when you send off for the guarantee.

It's loads of ridiculously fancy things I'm never going to make with loads of ingredients I've never heard of.

I'd like a recipe book for basic recipes adapted for the KA with instructions of what setting to put it on and how long for.

In fact we should have a KA recipe thread on MN if there isn't one already. I could start with my ice cream recipe that I made up today based on what was in the fridge!

I had a KitchenAid for just under two years and had nothing but trouble with it.
The pin at the back was constantly coming out and I was having to hammer it back in each time.
The dough hook paint flaked off and I got in touch with KitchenAid direct and they delivered me a new one. The new one went the same way. I never put them in the dishwasher, although KitchenAid say you can,I handwashed them.
The main problem I had was the speed. It seemed to have one speed which was fast.
It was guaranteed for 5 years from the shop where I bought it from,so back it went then came back worse than ever! On the slowest speed it stopped all together and made a terrible grinding noise.
I took it back again and this time it got damaged by the shop sending it back to KitchenAid to be fixed.
They offered me a refund.
I replaced it with a Kenwood KMix.
So far,so good.

I can't tell you how disappointed I was with the KitchenAid, as I too had yearned for one for ages.
I know they are lots of people who are delighted with theirs and can only assume I was given a duffer.
After my experience,I would tell anyone to get a good long guarantee. My Kmix is also guaranteed for 5 years. I am hoping nothing is going to go wrong, though!

frazzledbutcalm · 01/09/2015 10:05

Oh that's disappointing muffin ... but at least you're happy with your Kmix Smile

Occ ... I'd hoped the recipe book would be nice easy basic recipes! My dc and me especially aren't adventurous enough for exotic food Wink

GREAT NEWS ---- Harts have just rang me, they're putting a stop on my cranberry mixer and sending the raspberry instead!!!! At no extra charge Shock

Flowers to them ... thank you harts!!

You definitely had a dud muffin

I put mine to good use over the weekend. bread, muffins and a banana and almond loaf.

BestIsWest · 01/09/2015 10:17

Our Kenwood chef has just died after 28 years of faithful service so I need to replace. I want to know what makes Kitchen AIDS so much better that they cost £200 more than the Kenwood? Woukd I be paying for the looks? It wil live in a cupboard so I don't really care about that.

frazzledbutcalm · 01/09/2015 10:32

Ah thanks for throwing the party giles Grin

Alfabetibisgeti · 01/09/2015 10:34

I saw the cream colour (might've been white!?) on sale in Costco for

Alfabetibisgeti · 01/09/2015 10:34

*last month

FuzzyWizard · 01/09/2015 10:55

I love mine but didn't pay full price. I've never had a Kenwood so wouldn't know the difference. As others have said it is perfect for mash... It's also really good at shredding chicken meat. You put the meat in with the regular beater and switch it on for a minute or so.

frazzledbutcalm · 04/09/2015 16:08

Get you glad rags on giles ... get the party started ....

It's arrived!!! Grin Grin Grin

I LOVE IT!!! Grin Grin Grin

Raspberry ice .....!!!!!

I've stroked it Blush and just stand staring at it like you do with a newborn baby Blush

Congratulations! Have you got a name yet?

Gileswithachainsaw · 04/09/2015 16:39

where's the cake?

we need photos of the item and of course of the practice cakes!!!!

FuzzyWizard · 04/09/2015 17:08

Glad you got it sorted. The cranberry isn't the same at all... they are both nice- the colour is almost identical but the finish is very different. Binge baking will now commence.
