spooky hatwoman, I was going to suggest a beef and fruit stew! It has dried apples, prunes, apricots etc... in it. Everyone loves it and I just serve it up with rice or jacket pots.

Prufrock · 05/11/2006 22:25

I did it as triple quantities for Millenium eve, and just left it in the oven on a v. low heat to re-warm whilsy we were on our pub crawl. Only thing (and I feel somewhat like a grandaughter saying suck here) is to not double/triple the quanities of liquid as you will end up with a very watery stew as only so much liquid can evaporate from one simmering pan.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 05/11/2006 22:26

Delia's Lasagne recipe is pretty fab and goes a LOOOOOOOOOONG way.

Some homemade focaccia/ciabatta bread/rolls with basil and lemon oil.

Basic Green Leaf Salad or roasted veg to go with it.

Heathcliffscathy · 05/11/2006 22:26

cabbage or stew wise.

no egg sucking here evidently.

although i know how to rescue a too liquidy stew it would be better not to do it in first place.

Mine never does (senseless preen at being able to cook something better than the great sophable )- I think it'sthe frying first - and of course the red wine keeps it all looking - well - red.

Prufrock · 05/11/2006 22:27

Stew wise.

Heathcliffscathy · 05/11/2006 22:31

i only meant that i could do more than fry an egg!!!!

ok. so that means not using a litre of wine and 600ml of stock for a double quantity. for 15 people and 2 toddlers do you think i should do triple (feeds 6-8)?

Heathcliffscathy · 05/11/2006 22:33

actually i'm being a bit of a plum here aren't i....i'm not sure we have enough chairs!!!!!

Fuck it, do sandwiches

AitchTwoOh · 05/11/2006 22:37

course you can. with rice or little potatoes. (big ones can be tricky to get into one-handed.)

Heathcliffscathy · 05/11/2006 22:38

that's what my mum said.

so it shall not be.

Borrow CD's. But Yes s

Skribble · 05/11/2006 22:45

Buffet is a good idea, could do a couple of big pots of soup, buy in nice bread and rolls and some cheese/ meats/ salad stuff.

If you don't have enough chairs this might work better as people will spread out instead of trying to get tham all around the table. Set it all out in the kitchen and people can come in and help themselves, in my experience older relatives still like to take their food up to the table but other will perch all over the place .

Prufrock · 05/11/2006 22:49

Yes stew is OK for buffet, as long as you do spuds that don't need cutting

Heathcliffscathy · 06/11/2006 22:58

prufrock...

have gone into panic mode.

CountessDracula · 06/11/2006 23:05

CountessDracula · 06/11/2006 23:05

she fecking can cook btw

NappiesGalore · 06/11/2006 23:11

morrocan lamb tagine and cous-cous. easy peasy, can be made days in advance, only need a fork to eat (therefore suitable for buffet) and impressive.

AitchTwoOh · 06/11/2006 23:39

you could serve the tagine with couscous and some halved pittas, which might make scooping and eating easier.

Heathcliffscathy · 06/11/2006 23:40

recipes please.

obviously i'll be peeing on my hands before i serve (see loo thread)

lol sophable

recipe...hmmm, got one somewhere...

pointydog · 07/11/2006 18:56

Buffet. Iceland.

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2006 19:40

i've mentioned this before but Charlie Brooker in the Guardian made a comment that those Kerry Katona Iceland ads look exactly like the 'here's all the disgusting crap you eat in a week, fatty' scenes that Gillian McKeith does in You Are What You Eat. I can hardly look at those ads now.

NappiesGalore · 07/11/2006 21:12

Iceland seems a long way to go for a buffet...

lol at Aitch. would rather serve cornflakes than a spread from Iceland. but then, when it comes to food at the very least, im happy to be a snob!!

AitchTwoOh · 07/11/2006 21:56

actually i quite like iceland, we've got one near us and i buy all our frozen pea-type things there. it's really cheap. i wouldn't really go for the full Katona banquet, though.
