Welcome to the Mumsnet Cookery Book Club :)

Every month we choose two books to cook from - we aim to cook at least two new recipes during the month, reporting back to the group on how we got on.

This month our books are Made in India by Meera Sodha and Prashad by Kaushy Patel

Recipes are also available on line if you don't have access to the books - Meera Sodha's here and Prashad's here

If you would like to see what we cooked last month, the thread is here

Everyone is welcome, don't be shy :)

I haven't tried that one with cashews! Good tip. Really like it with pistachios and am sure cashews would be good...

So I'm thinking of doing the cashew/pistachio chicken tonight (with quorn, of course Wink)

Quick q though - does it taste creamy/korma-y? DH really doesn't like that kind of curry. I was thinking of leaving out the yoghurt but didn't know how the cashews would make it taste.....

Hueves we had that last night for the first time and I didn't think it was korma like, the yogurt gives a nice flavour without making it overly creamy.

Did chana dahl and jaipur slaw last night. Dahl was absolutely delicious and much more interesting than I expected. The slaw was a good accompaniment, a bit of crunch and freshness.

Just found this thread and cooked mums chicken curry Flowers delicious !!!!!

Well, I did the chicken and pistachios quorn and cashews last night, and it was very good :)
I don't think I was patient enough when grinding the cashews, or maybe my blender wasn't good enough, as the powder wasn't quite fine enough, so the sauce was a bit gritty - I'll know for next time.
Also, as I was using quorn instead of chicken it needed a bit more coriander and chilli adding, but that was my fault, not the recipe's, and it was fine.

And most importantly, DH liked it and said I could make it again! Grin Wink

Thanks for the recommendation for the chana dhal glorious, shall add it to the to-make list :)

The Mum's chicken curry is very good - but curiously tasted better fresh. Had some leftovers and wasn't so nice reheated (I find most curries better the next day).

My family adored the Lamb burger with the hot and sweet tomato chutney - I also made the lime pickled onions to go with it too and the masala chips. Great meal.

The Aubergine and tomato curry is very very simple to cook - a great lunch dish with some yoghurt and chappatis.

I was slightly disappointed by the fire smoked aubergine dip (prefer Ottlenghi version with pomegranate molasses and lots of lemon or Baba Ganoush) and also the mustard seed green beans. They were all still good though, just not amazing.

Planning to make the Pistachio Curry but us echeap cashews I bought (unsalted pistachios are very pricey)

Had the coriander chutney chicken and spring cabbage last night. Really simple and very much enjoyed both. The chicken was nice and fresh tasting for the warm weather with the right amount of kick.
