Gaucho grill is lovely if you like steak! Very knowledgeable waiters - will get you any steak in any size you want, with trimmings etc. Obviously fantastic meat.

NotQuiteCockney · 19/09/2006 14:35

Gaucho Grill is ok. It's a chain. Very steak-oriented. Haven't been to the others, although DH has been to 15, I think he said it was good.

bundle · 19/09/2006 14:35

Fifteen - went for lunch once, it was pretty good food but we didn't have a fantastic table (v close to the door)

YellowFeathers · 19/09/2006 14:37

We're stopping for 2 night and I think the Gaucho is a definate but we're torn between Blue Elephant and 15.

Not great reviews for /link{http://www.london-eating.co.uk/8.htm\Blue Elephant} .

ComeOVeneer · 19/09/2006 14:43

Blue Elephant

YellowFeathers · 19/09/2006 14:56

sorry, just feeding baby at same time lol.
Err we're staying at the Grange Holburn Hotel.
just had a look at 15 website and can only have lunch there. they're fully booked for evenings

Blue Elephant is quite fun, but quite "touristy" and the food is okay IYSWIM - if you want really good Thai food, I would suggest Patara - there are 3 or 4 of them around London and I think the food is very good. The Gaucho Grill is a favourite of ours for a relaxed evening out, but bring your appetite because the portions are generous! - yum.
They specialise in steak, but do have other things on the menu icluding a great chicken dish, fish and seafood and IIRC, a few vegetarian options. The only other thing is that they have an extensive wine list but it is Argentinian. Shout if you need any more info.

My SIL ate a Fifteen a few weeks back - she said it was fantastic, they had a taster menu which was £60 a head I think.

bundle · 19/09/2006 15:03

dh eats at Sheekey's quite a bit, he really likes it.

FoghornLeghorn · 19/09/2006 15:04

Also, we have stayed at the Grange Holborn twice. Was pretty good location and we were more than happy with the hotel/service each stay.

YellowFeathers · 19/09/2006 15:05

£60 a head

bundle · 19/09/2006 15:08

what about aldo zilli's fish restaurant?

cardy · 19/09/2006 15:09

Don't eat at the Granfe Holburn...breakfast is OK though!

FoghornLeghorn · 19/09/2006 15:10

Its literally a 30 second walk from holborn tube station right on the corner of the road - if you get one of the rooms at a higher floor you get panoramic windows which were great for views but did make me slightly nervous. There is a Sainsbury's virtually opposite the hotel if you needed to get snacks etc, there is also a boots IIRC which is handy if you need Anadin in the morning.
If you are looking for somewhere close to the hotel to eat at some point, as you walk out of the door if you cross straight over the road (traffic lights) and then cross straight to your right (traffic lights again) there is a lovely little Italian restaurant - can't think what it is called though.
Can also highly recommend a restaurant called Krusties or Crusty's - lovely little Italian, went for DH's birthday, food was fantastic.

bundle · 19/09/2006 15:11

just down kingsway there's a Belgo, if you like mussels and want something less formal.

FoghornLeghorn · 19/09/2006 15:12

We only had breakfast at the hotel - choice of full english or continental, was nice enough

YellowFeathers · 19/09/2006 15:13

that sounds good.
we're going for sis in law to be's hen dooo.
i think we're seeing guys and dolls, doing a bit of sight seeing and shopping.

OP posts:
YellowFeathers · 19/09/2006 15:14

oh yeah, we'll only have b'fast at the hotel. too many good restaurants to slum an evening meal there!

OP posts:
bundle · 19/09/2006 15:15

there's chez gerard in covent garden piazza, which is Ok.

FoghornLeghorn · 19/09/2006 15:18

OK, maybe the little Italian's I suggested wouldn't quite be ready for a group of rowdy hen party go'ers

YellowFeathers · 19/09/2006 15:26

eyyy, less of the rowdy hen gooers lol!
there'll be no veils, condoms or l plates at this dooo
