mine love home made salmon fishcakes - the secret for these is to mix the potato and salmon with a little cheese sauce. One of the few things ALL my children will eat with no fussing

ocd · 29/08/2006 18:26

Well done, Domestic Coddess. my home-made hummous was an almighty disaster. The blender will never recover. I could grout the bathroom with the damn stuff. It tasted like ground-up caterpillars. I actually gagged when I tatsed it. Looks like I will be taking some lovely little ocean nibbles to work tomorrow for my lunch instead....

ocd · 29/08/2006 18:35

I just had a misguided Good Life moment, where I thought ''spend 85p pence on a tub of shop bought? Why, how hard can it be?...''
I blame the bloody tahini paste, maybe it was off. It's been sitting in my cupboard for years probably, waiting til for a moment like this...

MarsLady · 29/08/2006 18:40

coddy? Did you just correct your typo?

iota · 29/08/2006 18:41

I tried making hummus once - and posted about it on MN - it was awful - I was advised to cut back drastically on the tahini next time - there hasn't been a next time

Gem13 · 29/08/2006 18:45

You can tell Cod's been on holiday. She is making her own fish fingers!

heiferjamese · 29/08/2006 18:47

do you reckon scampi pieces would work with your recipe Cod???

DD really enjoyed some on a trip out, but when I went to order online, I noticed that the frozen stuff was only about 50% fish and the rest crap stuff.....

or do you have another great recipe for breaded scampi??????

ocd · 29/08/2006 18:51

same principle id think
i put salt in for hat " genuine processed taste"

fmf, it's hard to get hummus right I think. Nigella adds greek yog, bet that makes it better (I've never tried it). I've made it loads and loads of times and it's almost never as nice as shop bought, I don't really understand why. Jamie's spiced smashed chickpeas are much easier, blend chickpeas with chillis, garlic, lemon juice and olive oil. Forgetting the tahini makes a big difference I find. You could leave out chillis if children are eating it (mine won't eat even bought hummus)

WideWebWitch · 29/08/2006 18:53

I was on that thread Iota, I think! Advising you to put greek yoh in!

WideWebWitch · 29/08/2006 18:54

Falafel are much easier I think, but can be very dry. I put more egg in than the recipe says.
