Here's the previous thread where it all began!

EatBetterers are trying to improve the diets of ourselves and our families. No weighing, restricting, calorie counting etc - just finding joy in nourishing ourselves by making positive changes one step at a time. All welcome! :)

Dame. The weighted hula hoop is great in front of the TV but wear a hoodie or thick jumper at first as I had huge bruises.

stilllearnin · 06/06/2014 22:16

I go through stages with alcohol - sometimes I could easily give it up but something stops me. A colleague said you're just not ready to accept you're the type of person who says 'oh,just an orange juice for me'! I thought that was pretty spot on!

holmessweetholmes · 06/06/2014 22:20

I run, do yoga periodically and now weights. I also joined a ladies' cricket team last year which is quite fun. I rather fancy taking up a martial art, but wonder if I am a bit old to begin!

stilllearnin · 06/06/2014 22:20

Oh for mindfulness I do the headspace programme. For exercise I do c25k - but I really like exercise so would like to do some more home style stuff. I really like following a program (can you tell?) and I have some hand weights. Any suggestions?

Dame, that really is fantastic news- you've done so much!

Sleepwhenidie · 06/06/2014 22:36

Holmes I only started kickboxing at 38, wish I'd begun in my 20's or earlier though, I think I could have been properly good-still love it though. Cricket sounds great-I am shockingly bad at ball sports Smile.

Still, 30 Day Shred gets great reviews on here for good reason, have you tried it?

stilllearnin · 06/06/2014 23:00

No i thought it sounds a bit maniacal!! (tho I don't know why!) off to a meat and music festival tomorrow- we are a family of veggies so the kids will be massively freaked out by pig roasts!! The official info says we can't take in our own food but i'm gonna sneak in some nuts and apples! Wish me luck!

Plonkysaurus · 07/06/2014 06:42

Well my treat Friday was a bit on the healthier side than I'd anticipated - cod and fennel salad followed by berries and creme fraiche. Not very sinful but at least there's no sugar hangover. I did have two small glasses of white wine, and I really enjoyed them. I have the odd glass of really good wine - I used to work in a wine shop so I doubt I will ever want to be tee total, there's just so much to savour.

Meat feat sounds lovely! Maybe not for veggies but these things are all about atmosphere anyway, right?

I'm getting in to exercise. Ice started running and have joined a gym - my favourite machine in there is the rowing machine so now I have shoulders like hulk. Runnings great but I think I need my gait assessed. I tried the shred and found jm so bloomin irritating, but even in the short time I did it I definitely saw results. I'm doing Mudderella in the summer so I'm trying to focus on all over fitness - I'm terrified!

Right, off for a quick run now and off to a spa day later, can't wait!

Clutterbugsmum · 07/06/2014 08:01

Because DH works stupid hours I can't get to the gym, although I don't think I would go even if I could as from past experiences I know I don't enjoy it.

But I do go to Pilates once a week (mum babysits until dh gets in) and I've just started doing a 2 miles power walk using you tube. Which I am aiming to do every other day to start with.

fuzzpig · 07/06/2014 08:04

Exercise wise I'm just walking ATM. I say 'just' but I agree with sleep it's underestimated! And it's still a big deal to me given how long I was unable to even walk short distances. I have a pedometer and twice this week I got around 10,000 steps :) most of my walking is school run and sometimes on further to the shop/park, I also get a decent count from work depending on what I'm timetabled to do (library assistant so some tasks are fairly physical). Amazingly I have even found myself deliberately choosing a longer route - as little as 4 months ago, before DH started his job and before I therefore started doing school runs, I would never have thought that possible!

I'm really itching to do more exercise though. My consultant specifically said not to go joining a gym yet, which disappointed me, but he is an expert in my condition (CFS/ME) and TBF I am still recoverING, I'm not recoverED. Yet! I have decided I will consider again in September - I wouldn't be able to get to the gym in summer anyway due to childcare, so once the DCs are back at school I will think about it. The one in town is really cheap so I wouldn't feel like I had to do several long sessions a week to get my money's worth IYSWIM.

Anyway, in the meantime, he agreed something like Tai Chi would be great, so I am going to try various things at home for now.

Fuzzpig I have a fitbit, and on weekdays, weekends vary depending on what we doing as a family. I average about 9500 steps but am aiming for as 12000 steps which I can do if I do my powerwalk.

Have looked in you tube to get some ideas for exercises you can do/try.

stilllearnin · 07/06/2014 08:39

Clutter that power walk sounds interesting- how do I find it? I like running but I need to improve my fitness too as I'm feeling a bit over the hill! Fuzz Pilates or yoga might suit? I do a fantastic yoga class. It's long, we have a laugh but we kind of call it quiet yoga and it's all about tuning into your body. There's a lovely site 'doyogawithme.com' it's in Canada so its often beautiful landscape too! Right off to the gig! I've fallen off the wagon a bit so looking to the festival to redouble my efforts! Have a good weekend.

holmessweetholmes · 07/06/2014 09:34

I'm lucky enough to have plenty of time for exercise atm because I'm not working (and probably won't until we are all well and truly settled in our new place). So I'm running 3 times a week, doing weights 3 times a week and doing one yoga class.

Clutterbugsmum · 07/06/2014 11:23
The lady is caled Leslie Sansone.
Clutterbugsmum · 07/06/2014 11:25

I find it hard but not to hard, as she incorporates other exercises as well. But I am unfit.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/06/2014 12:03

My homeopath (don't laugh) suggested yoga. I am so inflexible from one knee down though that I've been looking at chair yoga which might suit me more. There's an over 50's class near me that I might gate crashWink

fuzzpig · 07/06/2014 13:21

I was looking at chair yoga too! :o

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/06/2014 14:04

I think I might get a chair yoga dvd fuzz and try it at home first before a classGrin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/06/2014 17:04

I googled, it's a common complaint it seems. And 3 cups a day is ideal and no more than 6.
