Aldi What did I do wrong?

£80 Angry Trolley about 3/4 full. 6 bottles of wine and a weeks worth of meat. Nothing strange that I wouldn't usually buy. Similar in Sainsburys would have cost about the same. Also had to go to Sainsbury for branded cereal, gammon steaks and Aunt Bessie oven chips Sad

Well it sounds like it included about £30 of wine so £50 for almost 3/4 of a trolley sounds pretty good to me!

Their cereals are brilliant by the way.

Try aldi Maris piper chips the next time. Also base your meals on the super six. So I make pear crumble etc the week the deal is on.

6 bottles of wine is probably more than a third of the total. Knock that on the head and you'll be rich before you know it!

Main mistake is buying any branded stuff. Did you mainly stick to brands you recognised in Aldi ? You need to try their own brands - they're very good.

But yes, are you sure you get 3/4 trolley inc 6 bottles of wine for the same money elsewhere, esp if you're buying a lot of brands?

I still have my last online shop (which did include wine I kept it deliberately) We don't drink 6 bottles of wine but in the main supermarkets you get a reduction if you buy 6 so it's sensible to buy them all together. Had to get Crispy Minis for ds lol. No branded stuff I can think off in the Aldi shop

If you have another receipt where you bought much the same stuff can't you tick it back and see where any differences are? I'll bet you there is a biggish ticket item on the Aldi shop that wasn't on the Sainsburys one or that you actually bought more stuff this time!

I think it depends what branch you go to - I have a small aldi near me and I found it lacked variety therefore price

Why did you have to go to Sainsbury's and buy branded cereal? The whole point of Aldi is the non-branded items being near on identical, if not better than the over priced branded stuff. You need to embrace it fully, doesn't sound like you have.

I found that when I went to Aldi, and the aldi brand things I tried were nowhere near as nice as tesco own brand let alone proper brands.
Add to that the awful shopping experience of being in there and the stupid packing over by the window thing I never went again.
I meal plan and take a list and can shop at tesco for 4 of us and the cat for £60 a week. And that includes lunches.

I tried aLdi for the first time last week. Huge basket full that I expected to cost around £40 was £20. Their own brand apricot wheats are much the nicest I've ever had. Their premium tinned tomatoes are lovely but v v cheap. The free range pork fillet was delicious. We had bolognese with their mince which was good and the passata is superb. Kids like the fromage frais. The creme fraiche is the same as any other creme fraiche

I'll be back there next time I need a supermarket shop

I did a shop in Aldi recently. Their canned tomatoes were OK but their top-notch sausages were bloody horrible and their shoulder of pork was mostly skin and fat. I also had to go to another shop to get a lot of fairly ordinary stuff that I would have expected to find there. Wholemeal pasta & porridge oats, for example. Haven't either the time or inclination to run around multiple outlets chasing bargains so adios Aldi...

For me Aldi works best as a bulk buy shop, I go maybe once a month and stock up on things that are hugely cheaper, I couldn't do my weekly shop there.

Hoot loop I shop at Lidl, sadly no Aldi in the vicinity and I too have. Family of 4 + cat and my weekly bill comes to between £35-£40.

Dh insisted on coming shopping with me at the weekend so had to go to Tescos. (I pass Lidl stuff off as Tescos, refill Tescos jar of coffee with Lidl own brand stuff etc.) We didn't even buy a full weeks shop and I was left reeling at the prices. £2.78 for a jar of pesto that I usually buy for .99p and cat litter the only variety left was over £5 compared with £1.79 and jars of Italian tomato sauce £1.15 compared with 75p.

Should add we are tee total vegetarians. I take Meal planning to the next level and the kids find it hilarious when they go back to other peoples houses and look in their full fridges comparing them to our own empty larder. We throw nothing away.
