Thread for those who are trying to eat "better"

Following on from yesterdays thread "Do I eat too much", which I posted on, I was unsurprising told that what I eat is crap. Have been feeling pretty crap the last few weeks, not enough energy low libido, sluggish, wound up, down - so have decided to see if changing my eating habits can shift things a bit. I'm not overweigh 5ft5, 8st6lbs, (slightly on the heavy side for me), but would be pleased if I did loose a few pounds, trying not to make weight the focus. Have decided to take a vitamin pill with iron every day, last year had v low ferratin levels so had to take iron tablets for a while. I'm not promising to do well every day and cut out sugar completely as I feel that I would be destined to fail. However, I am going to try to I improve. Today have eaten:
1 pack of Belvita biscuits
1 Actvia extra creamy yoghurt
1 large apple
1 Danone (high protein yoghurt)
3 Oatcakes
Some cashew nuts
I am planning on sweet chilli chicken & rice (ready meal cause of money diet) with some stir fried veg for tea and plan to eat some red grapes afterwards. Also may have some sort of a treat on school run. Also aim is to replace the Belvita biscuits with oatcakes for breakfast and maybe eat them with some cheese. Know I'm not doing perfectly but I am making an effort. Buddies welcome.

Thanks Sleep, unfortunately have to push through as so much to do. Hopefully DH will help me do everything in the morning. Just done some baking with DS as have the class toy monkey for the weekend. I'm sure I will feel better this time next week when the anniversary and horrible time of the month have passed. Thanks for the kindness, am going to buy some flowers on Wednesday to mark the anniversary as this is what I usually do

Post ONE thing on here that you need to do.

Ie, clean the bathroom. Then come back on here and talk to us for 5 minutes.

Octopus37 · 15/03/2014 16:17

I have cleared out one of the cupboards in the lounge that badly needed doing. Was on my to do list for this week, I am not going to hoover and dust the lounge.

Thanks for saying that re your Son, btw didn't talk to the other Mum about my own woes. Actually saw the other Mum when I was shopping and we were both without our kids, hence having the chance to chat. Just feel very humbled by how much she has to cope with, when I struggle particularly with my 4 year old who doesn't even have special needs, although today is maybe fair enough as he has pushed his brother down the stairs, spilt loads of lemonade, scribbed on furniture and tried to throw a football out of the bathroom window.

SN or not, kids will push you to your absolute limit on the best of days.

Some days my SN son is a breeze to deal with compared to my NT daughter. Other days she's the easy one to deal with.

Just because your child doesn't have SN it doesn't mean that you are not going through the same or worse in other aspects. Child rearing is bloody hard work.

As regards to fruit and veg, type into google your area and fruit and veg deliveries. I had no idea my area did this until I was just messing about online trying to get my shop done cheaper. We go through an insane amount of fruit and veg so it's been costing loads with supermarkets.

Octopus, I do hope you're feeling a bit better today. Having children is one of the hardest things I've ever done. Sometimes it's just overwhelming.

I used to soak the beans over night but am going to try canned ones instead.

I saute 2 onions, garlic, celery, 2carrots in a glug of olive oil, this is important don't be shy with itGrin . Add tinned tomatoes and a squirt of puree. Chicken stock and then the beans. simmer slowly for ages or I'm going to try it in the slow cooker so ill let you know how that tastes. Serve with crumbled feta on the top and a drizzle of olive oil.

It's actually better for a night in the fridge and eaten the next day.

I think that's how I used to make it, I'll update once I've made it in case I've forgotten anythingSmile

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/03/2014 19:59

I think with the canned beans I'll add them at the end so they don't break up.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/03/2014 19:59

Or maybe 1 can and add another at the end?

Rummikub · 16/03/2014 20:00

Oo I have canned butter beans in my store cupboard. An update would be appreciated.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/03/2014 20:40

I'm planning to do them tomorrow!

Today I had meatballs for tea
Made a tomato/celery/onion/garlic type sauce, threw in loads of baby spinach and added some goats cheese. Was really nice with the meatballs and have lots left to take to work Smile
