Now, other than stick my whole hand into said tin and eat the stuff like Winnie the Pooh eats his honey, what other great things can I do with it?

nevergoogle · 13/01/2014 21:25

just eat it.

Needthesunshine · 13/01/2014 21:43

Key lime pie - crushed digestives and melted butter for the base. Whisk 300ml double cream and condensed milk. Add juice and zest of 5 limes. It's amazing watching it thicken up. Pour over biscuit base and chill in fridge. So easy and delicious.

Coconut haystacks, Hearts? Tin of condensed milk, bag of dedicated coconut, dash of vanilla essence, mix it all together in a bowl then use an egg cup as a mould to put little dollops on a greased baking tray, half a glacé cherry on top of each. Bake at 160-180 for around 20-30 minutes.

The best thing ever....dulce de leche or camel's drool, as the Portuguese call it.

IndigoTea · 13/01/2014 21:59

Make a dessert! Do you feel up to it? If so, I have loads of recipes! Smile

MoonlightandRoses · 13/01/2014 22:06

Take a frying pan, slice a couple of bananas in half, add a good dollop of milk, followed by an even bigger dollop of nutella, drop of brandy - heat gently until bubbling - serve and eat.

Or SoupDragon's flapjack recipe here

Koothrapanties · 13/01/2014 22:08

If you are feeling lazy just pour it over strawberries. Yum!!

Or save it for the morning and have it on porridge. My ban used to give us this and I have been hooked ever since.

Koothrapanties · 13/01/2014 22:10

*nan not ban

Am I the only one off to search the cupboards?

MadsMikkelsensCheekbones · 13/01/2014 22:16

I agree with what BadgerNadgers says, whip it up with the same amount of double cream, adding whatever flavouring you like, I did melted white chocolate and crystalised ginger but the list is endless!! , and then freeze. It's the best , most easy no churn ice cream you can make! I won't buy ice cream for the kids ever again!

TelephoneTree · 13/01/2014 22:17

Add an equal quantity of double cream, add enough fresh lemon juice for it to taste amazing and put it in the fridge to set - you'll have an amazing pudding that's actually the top of a cheese cake!

You could make a base for it by smashing up digestives, mixing with butter and sugar and pushing it down hard, quick chill and then adding your lemony mix.

BooBudolphMeowson · 13/01/2014 22:29

Telephone tree - I used to do that all the time, but try whipping the double cream first before you add the condensed milk.. It's a whole other level of yum!

BadgersNadgers · 13/01/2014 22:47

Mads Ginger? You dirty bugger. That's going on next week's shopping list along with some dark chocolate chips and a big spoon Grin

FrankSpenser · 14/01/2014 08:39

Morning!

So last night- here's what I did. Took the condensed milk and mixed it together with some extra thick double cream and squeezed fresh lemon into it. Bloody glorious i was. I didn't have digestives to make it into an impromptu cheesecake but I didn't mind. I sat with my feet up watching a film with my bowl of lemony cream and a spoon. Twas lovely.

That sounds really rather good.

Tortoise · 14/01/2014 13:43

coconut ice.

BallyGoBackwards · 14/01/2014 14:41

We made "Rocky Road".....melt butter in bowl, add condensed milk, add chocolate and melt all together. Add broken biscuits and mini marshmallows. Mix into one big mush. Put on/in tray. Chill in fridge and then slice into squares. Viola!!!!!

We followed Donal Skehan's recipe (little Irish guy from junior masterchef). It was a christmas recipe with orange zest and cranberries too but we opted to leave them out!! Enjoy!!

FrankSpenser · 14/01/2014 15:14

I quite fancy rocky road now.

One tin of condensed milk. 1001 ways in which to use it.

Banofee pie.

Or fudge

Beastofburden · 14/01/2014 16:07

You are so cruel. I am on a diet until at least Easter

TelephoneTree · 14/01/2014 22:55

oooh here's another:

honeycomb ice-cream:

 100g golden caster sugar

· 2 tbsp golden syrup

· 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda

· 568ml double cream

· 250ml condensed milk

  1. To make the honeycomb, put the sugar and syrup in a small saucepan and gently melt the sugar. Increase the heat and simmer until it begins to darken and caramelise. Add the bicarbonate of soda, mix briefly and immediately pour onto a sheet of baking paper while it is still frothy. Leave to cool and set, then break up into small pieces.
  1. Whisk the cream until it is floppy, add the condensed milk and whisk again until it holds its shape. Fold in the honeycomb pieces. Spoon into a freezer container or a loaf tin lined with clingfilm and freeze overnight. Remove 20 minutes before serving. For the adults, turn the ice cream out of the container or tin (peel off the clingfilm) and slice to serve. The kids might prefer scoops.

Sunday your cat is adorable!

motherstongue · 14/01/2014 23:04

I'm laughing at the "tablet". I always have tins of condensed milk in the cupboard for making tablet. I, however, never eat tablet unless it is straight from the pot whilst it is still warm. Ah bliss!

KateSMumsnet · 15/01/2014 12:12

If you needed any further inducement to indulge in condensed milk, we've created a handy page of some of the recipes mentioned here - go forth and make tablet

Keep the suggestions coming

Rooners · 15/01/2014 12:14

We used to pour it on fresh chopped up peaches. When we were students.

Lovely! I cannot eat anything approaching toffee so think tablet would be a disaster.
