have you/would you/do you let your 14 month old eat any of these?

i am rubbish at knowing what to feed my 14 month old and whilst he does eat a lot of veg and some white fish that really is about all he will eat.... very fussy and also we are bringing him up to not eat animal meat (until he decides otherwise!). So anyway was told that i can now feed him anything a four year old would eat!?
So walking round tesco i made a list of all the things i thought i might try him with but was not to sure if they would be a good idea.
organix do a range of 12 months + crisps with the promise of no added badness etc surely they are ok.... or will i be teaching him to like crisps?
Ambrosia custard/rice pudding pre made in pots....
frozen cod steak in parsley sauce
milky bar white choc puddings
raisins or is he to young ie will he choke on them?
cheerios??? ok i know the answer to that, full of sugar!
please help i have a baby recipe book and have tried some of the recipes but ds just seems interested only in the food he always gets.... ie mashed veg... if it comes on a spoon it has to have minimal lumps but he will eat lumps himself ie broccoli/cauliflower etc but not enough to call a proper meal!
oh one last thing is wheetabix good or bad? someone told me they had to much fibre in so i should not be giving him them.... what alternative cereal (other than ready brek) can i try?

a 14 month old can eat anything you can, except perhaps extra chilli hot spicy stuff.
at this age, just give him whatever you eat yourself. he may be fussy, but if he gets hungry enough, then my experience has been that kids will eat whatever is given to them.

i think this is lovely that you are trying so hard to find good food for yout son.
ti s bloody hars isnt it.
i think weetabix soudns fine - try adn bashed up banana too or he can hold it ot chew on it as he gtes older.
re the fish id make your own - get the frozen fish you get plain in tesco - they have 2 fo £5 ont the box and then cook it ( from frozen is ifne ) slowly simmering it in a pan of milk. add mashed potato and he has a lovely meal! also fish always ready if you run out.

id stick to yogurts ratehr tna ready made custard an davoid pudding s realyl toatally unless a one off - what abotu greek yogurt wiht a small spoon of fruity compote or even jam in it - mine used to loev htat
not sure how old for rasins but apple is always good too - grate it if you think he is too young fro chunks
also a sheperds pie bototm is easyot maek - some mine friedonion a bit of water ( osme put tomatoes in) asome diced carrots adn cook slowly for 30 mins then add masha dn fork it all down well

  • the organix crisps are ok, bit processed and weird, but ok. Homemade fresh popcorn is a nice alternative.
  • custard/rice pudding in pots is scary, processed and sugary.

  • frozen cod steak in parsley sauce is probably ok

  • milky bar white choc puddings are scary. I hate the "milky bar" brand. It's not bloody milky, it's sugary!

  • raisins are fine! They can have raisins from 6 months. He will love them, although they will come out pretty much as they went in. They're too small to choke on.

  • (plain) cheerios are ok, they're not that sugary, really, and they're good finger food.

Other good finger food:

  • bread sticks. You can buy normal plain adult ones. These may well be a hit.
  • green beans. These are an excellent shape, and easy for kids to eat
  • cheese - cut into sticks?
  • any fresh fruit

Cheerios are crap food,as are choc pudding things and custard.
Raisins,Weetabix and fish fine though.

poisson · 24/07/2006 20:48

piss orf

zubb · 24/07/2006 20:48

ds3 is 10 months and loves weetabix and banana. He also eats raisins - mostly fed to him by ds2!
Does he eat salmon? Salmon in watercress sauce is good, or just with potatoes. Or white fish and veg in a cheese sauce.
Pasta and veg sauce as well maybe, or a tuna based sauce.

poisson · 24/07/2006 20:49

I used to cheat loads when ds2 was little - loads of frozen veg for him to pick at - shoved into any meal at the last minute

tesco frozen fish is fab - in freezer section - just microwave for a few minutes then add to whaever
used to make 'cheat's fish pie' this way

popsycal · 24/07/2006 20:53

salmon rice and brocolli - always go down well as a quick dinner

poisson · 24/07/2006 20:53

oh yes mash with cheese on

pasta wihta cheese sauce ( make your own costs pennies)

poisson · 24/07/2006 20:53

scrambled eggs
