i am rubbish at knowing what to feed my 14 month old and whilst he does eat a lot of veg and some white fish that really is about all he will eat.... very fussy and also we are bringing him up to not eat animal meat (until he decides otherwise!). So anyway was told that i can now feed him anything a four year old would eat!?
So walking round tesco i made a list of all the things i thought i might try him with but was not to sure if they would be a good idea.
organix do a range of 12 months + crisps with the promise of no added badness etc surely they are ok.... or will i be teaching him to like crisps?
Ambrosia custard/rice pudding pre made in pots....
frozen cod steak in parsley sauce
milky bar white choc puddings
raisins or is he to young ie will he choke on them?
cheerios??? ok i know the answer to that, full of sugar!
please help i have a baby recipe book and have tried some of the recipes but ds just seems interested only in the food he always gets.... ie mashed veg... if it comes on a spoon it has to have minimal lumps but he will eat lumps himself ie broccoli/cauliflower etc but not enough to call a proper meal!
oh one last thing is wheetabix good or bad? someone told me they had to much fibre in so i should not be giving him them.... what alternative cereal (other than ready brek) can i try?

my dd is 14mths and has tuna, she also loves pilchards in tomato sauce, recommended by HV, a bit salty so she only has them about once a week. I've also mixed the pilchards in with sweet potatoe and lentils, she thinks this is really yummy. She won't eat raisons yet though, can't chew them, she had one in her mouth for over 30mins before I rescued it! She had turkey curry for tea though, same as us. I've found rice a good way to get her chewing a bit, I blend the sauce but leave the rice as it is. She also has puffed rice with fruit puree and milk for breakfast, aswell as weetabix and readybrek! She loves pasta in suace as finger food. Organix do some good snacks for when you're out and about, dd likes cheesey biscuits and ssed and raison biscuits. Fromage frais go down well too.

ds might like my porridge pancakes .

(Also had to jaw drop at you petit poisson for such tender, constructive, useful posts. Have you been taking too much sun perhaps ? You know it is important to drink lots of water in this heat....)

jollyfolly it sounds to me like you have been a little cautious in giving your DS lumps/finger foods. I would start giving it a go, because, yes, at 14 months both my children were eating the same as us and not mashed at all. Maybe cut into bite sized pieces. Start off slowly and then see how he takes to it. Of course, if he is not used to it he may find it more fun to throw it across the room at first! If you stay with him you can ensure he doesn't fill his mouth too full or choke or anything. Have you tried giving him toast fingers to get used to feeding himself?

Also another thing to be aware of is that it is not unusual for a baby's appetite to reduce at this age. So if this happens try not to worry.

Isn't it because you can relate to jf, cod ? Were yours fussy eaters ?

no only one is bad and even he is betetr
ds3 is a typical kids and ds2 is a gourmet

Yogurts are good.
My ds had milky BARS [not the puds till older then he didn't like them]
hOW ABOUT PASTA
pORRIGE with smished up prunes/bananas/apples
Or Rice
Grissini amd you can different flavours and you could make a dip.
I know what you mean about the recipe books too!
Cheese straws are worth a try and are quite easy to make.
It's worth keeping on giving the foods that they won't try because they might eventually
Ds is nearly 7 and has only just tried cauliflower.
He dosen't eat meat either.
Good luck.I expecy you will get lots of advice

organix do a range of 12 months + crisps with the promise of no added badness etc surely they are ok.... or will i be teaching him to like crisps? - give these to my 14 month old to stave off whinginess when preparing a meal - only 2 or 3 at a time

Ambrosia custard/rice pudding pre made in pots.... - yes, guilty, since went on a yogurt strike.

frozen cod steak in parsley sauce - would make own sauce

milky bar white choc puddings - not really, don't know they're missing it yet.

raisins or is he to young ie will he choke on them? - give these

cheerios??? ok i know the answer to that, full of sugar! - mine baby pinches these from her 9-year old sister's bowl!

oh one last thing is wheetabix good or bad? someone - fine, I think.
