How many calories do you reckon are in this lot:

2 thick slices of home-made wholemeal bread + scraping of butter
1 slice of ham
about 30g mature cheddar (3 thinnish slices)
1 slim-a-soup in a mug
i square plain chocolate
3 pints diet Coke
1 tablespoon home-made strawberry ice cream (made with whole milk and double cream)
1 thick slice
1 weightwatchers tin of soup (tomato and vegetable)

square of chocolate was just one little square...the bars are divided into squares, about an inch I spose.

Have thrown away the soup tin, because I am a muppet

800 - 850?

Will be interested to see what others say!

Greensleeves · 21/07/2006 19:40

Is that a lot? In slimming terms? I lost four stone (much-needed) recently, was REALLY happy about it, but my anti-anxiety medication is making me gain weight and I really don't want to stop taking them because they work and I need them. So am trying to make a concerted effort to shed some pounds before the whole summer finishes (I normally eat much better food than this, pulses/fruit/veg etc, but am trying to keep calorie intake down)

SenoraPostrophe · 21/07/2006 19:44

gs - that really doesn't sound like a lot. it isn't a day's worth is it?

lentils etc are much better for losing (or at least, not gaining) weight because they are so much more filling. can you keep eating what you were but exercise more instead? It's a whole lot less stress than this calorie counting malarkey!

or take up smoking

Greensleeves · 21/07/2006 19:47

Had enough trouble giving up bloosy smoking

Yes, tis a day's worth, but usually I do eat more fruit/veg and not so much Diet Coke

I want to get rid of these fucking love handles before the weather gets cold again... I hate lumbering about on the beach with sweaty dewflaps wondering whether people are sniggering at me

bread - 250
ham dunno
cheese - 150
slim a soup - I don't fucking know, 50?
chocolate - oh piss off, it's one square
diet coke - Greeny you should not be drinking that shit
ice cream - are you bonkers, who eats 1 tbsp ice cream?
1 thick slice - do you feel like telling us what of? lard? cat food? primula?
1 tin soup - 100?

Greeny this is not a day's food, this is not food, for fuck's sake woman get a grip, no wonder you have got cold sores that won't go and you are feeling like shit - THIS IS CRAP FOOD

PLEASE EAT SOMETHING REAL AND LOTS OF IT

you look lovely and you are NOT FAT

FrannyandZooey · 21/07/2006 19:54

You need about 2000 calories a day and you have had about 600

you are a CAMBRIDGE GRADUATE FFS now where precisely did you mislay those braincells dear????

apronstrings · 21/07/2006 19:56

greensleeves - firstly congrats on the great weight loss. what about taking the other tack and increasing your metablic rate because my guess is that the anti anxiety drugs are slowing it down. When I lost 30ish lbs, one of the main things I did was to try and up the amount of calories I burnt up. silly things like not parking near the shop, always walking upo stair no lifts etc., walking up and downstairs instead of putting stuff on the bottom to go up with me later.

SenoraPostrophe · 21/07/2006 19:56

if that's a day's food then the problem may well be that your body's gone into starvation mode.

like franny says, please eat some proper food.

SenoraPostrophe · 21/07/2006 19:58

and sorry about the smoking suggestion. it slipped out

Greensleeves · 21/07/2006 20:07

Franny it's Oxford actually, and I did History, so not a real subject anyway

The "thick slice" was meant to be deleted, it refers to one of the two slices of bread mentioned earlier...

It's not that little though, is it? And I do usually eat more pulses/fruit/veg than that.

I can't face gyms or jogging, all that crap, I just hate it all with such a passion I thought I was doing enough exercise just running around after kids all the time... I am a bit fatter than I would like, and I am just not into the whole "1lb per week" thing. Am an instant gratification kind of a girl

So it's not many calories then. Good. I was feeling guilty about the cheese.

FrannyandZooey · 21/07/2006 20:11

YOU ARE NOT LISTENING

THIS IS A STUPID AMOUNT OF FOOD TO EAT AND WILL MAKE YOU ILL

c'mon you should have too many brains for this

You will not lose weight on that for long, you will just fuck your metabolism

Meanwhile you will have that cold sore for ruddy ever, hmm, that'll look nice on the beach

EAT SOME PIES NOW WOMAN

FrannyandZooey · 21/07/2006 20:12

what do you mean it's "not that little"? Are you deliberately being an idiot? You've had about a quarter of the fuel your body needs to keep itself ticking over for the day. Do you think it's going to function well on that?

Greensleeves · 21/07/2006 20:15

stop picking on me! It's not that little. As I keep saying, I do normally have better food, although not pies and not vast huge amounts - and the Diet Coke is because it was in the fridge and it was cold and....

It's all right for you, we can't see you if you turn sideways

You can eat an awful lot better than that on WeightWatchers - cook from scratch, none of your slim-a-soup nonsense. I've had today: crumpets for breakfast; smoked salmon, coleslaw, salad, Ryvitas (I do like Ryvita, could have had bread instead) and a bag of crisps for lunch; large helping of home made lasagne and salad for dinner; plus two bottles of Bud and I'm just within my points for today (though I'm having wine tonight too - well, it is Friday).

It's not a quick fix, but if when you start you generally get a really good weight loss the first week which is an incentive to keep going. I lost 3 stone two years ago on WeightWatchers - have fluctuated since, but am pretty happy with my weight at the moment without too much strictness and effort.

FrannyandZooey · 21/07/2006 20:20

Watch it or I'll have you on the Naughty Step

SenoraPostrophe · 21/07/2006 20:23

greeny, listen to franny will you. you are not eating enough. and never never ever feel guilty about food. that way lies ruin.

and as for you mm, did you put on 2 stone since I saw you or something?

SenoraPostrophe · 21/07/2006 20:25

anyway as for exercise: just walk a few times a week where you would currently take the car, or if you already walk, walk a bit faster or take the long/hilly route. or go for a walk in the country. or go swimming once a week. that's all it takes sometimes. I lost all my baby weight last time from hoiking the double buggy up and down the hill to the shop.

marthamoo · 21/07/2006 20:26

I think I put on about a stone since I saw you...have lost it again now though (uh-oh, I think I'm a yo-yo dieter...)

FrannyandZooey · 21/07/2006 20:27

She does loads of walking SenoraP. She's always out tripping merrily up hill and down dale, playing her ruddy fiddle as she goes, most likely

SenoraPostrophe · 21/07/2006 20:27

do you really like ryvita though??

marthamoo · 21/07/2006 20:29

I really do Though I like it best with lots of butter on the non-slimmer's side (do you remember those ads from the 70s? You slathered your spread on the dimpled side if you weren't dieting, and had a mere scraping on the flat side if you were).

SenoraPostrophe · 21/07/2006 20:29

ok then, the other time I lost weight, I did it by leavinga mouthful or two at every meal, but otherwise eating the same amount. I do think calorie counting and stuff just makes you worked up. weightwatchers points aren't quite so bad, but people still get obsessed by them. it's weird if you ask me.

SenoraPostrophe · 21/07/2006 20:30

mm - I think I might be younger than you!
