What do yours have for breakfast?

I'd love to know your views on the most appropriate breakfasts for an 11 month old.
My ds loves weetabix but i'm concerned about the amount of salt he is injesting. Also, the effect that this cereal is having on the contents of his nappies leaves a lot to be desired!! Lets just say that he has gone from rabbit droppings to huge, full, sticky poo's...sorry!!!

What would you wonderful mums recommend?

Full sticky poos are what you want

Ready Brek and Porridge are good breakfasts at this age too.

Freckle · 26/02/2004 11:15

ReadyBrek or supermarket own-brand equivalent (I once checked, saddo that I am, and S/bury's own brand was more nutritious than the branded one). You can sweeten or not. Mine used to like it with banana mashed in

womba1 · 26/02/2004 11:24

Mears...i know full sticky poos are want he needs but not what i need at 7am......12pm.......7pm...!!

Thanks Freckle..he loves banana so will give it a go

12 month old has Ready Brek here, but sometimes have to mix it with yoghurt or banana to get her to eat any! Some mornings she's desparate for her milk, others she doesn't want it at all. Whatever kind of day she's having, she tends to eat a bowl of around 10 grapes cut in halves when she's done with the porridge. I give her an Organix Fruit & Cereal Bar as a snack mid-morning too.

Thanks Galaxy - might try her with Cheerios.

Northerner · 26/02/2004 11:37

Ds has either weetabix or porridge or cheerios, and toast and yoghurt (breakfast is his favourite meal so I fill him up!)

At weekends he has hard boiled eggs and soldiers.

CountessDracula · 26/02/2004 11:43

18 month old dd has either Shreddies or Cheerios or Ready Brek or Weetabix, followed by wholmeal toast and fruit.

If I am feeling domestic goddessy (ie once a year) she gets pancakes!

misdee · 26/02/2004 11:47

ready brek with mash bananas or other fruit, or if despertae and nothing else available then with a drizzle of honey (but only after she was 1yr old). she has also started stealing my rice crispies.
they will both have toast and marmite too.

Crunchie · 26/02/2004 11:50

Cherrios are good, but full of sugar. However I can't say anything, DD1 has toast or porridge or egg/bacon, DD2 has weetabix (with sugar) or boiled egg. The favourite at the weekend if pancakes and syrup or full cooked breakfast

This morning DD1 had 1/2 bowl shreddies and milk, then fried egg and bacon (left the yolk) DD2 had a few spoons of weetabix and then fried egg and bacon. I had banana, apple, pear and muller lite (when i finally got to work)

pollingfold · 26/02/2004 11:55

How about raisin wheats - they are like mini shredded wheat with raisins or apricots or raspberry inside. DS looks these as he can pick them up with his fingers. Also don't distintergrate on contact with milk

Eggy bread - bread dipped in egg and fried - no oil but in non stick pan.

boiled egg and soilders (for over 1's)

Harvest crunch with fruit bits

oliveoil · 26/02/2004 12:03

dd is 16 months and has a bottle of milk followed by ready brek. Then I make my breakfast and she eyeballs and then pinches half my toast and whatever fruit I am having.

Have tried dropping the bottle but she only likes water or juice from a cup

I will get her to read this thread

Bozza · 26/02/2004 12:37

DS has either porridge or weetabix with raisins sprinkled on. Used to do ready brek when younger.

If its nursery days thats all I have time for (amazed at you crunchie) but they have toast on arrival at nursery. Other days (4 a week) I will ask him if he wants anything else with the choice bing fruit or yoghurt. Last Sunday he had porridge with raisins, yoghurt, 2 melba toasts with lemon curd (mine stolen but I am pregnant), a banana and some grapes. He is a breakfast fan though.

Codandchips · 26/02/2004 12:38

my 11 monhts - er is off banana and ceral

has toast or pancakes(!)

pupuce · 26/02/2004 12:40

Womba - I am afraid rabbit droppings are not great... as Mears said it's the other consistency that's best and more than once a day is a good sign!

At 11 months old mine had porridge with quinoa and always a fruit. I am not 100% sure when we started yogourt and muesli but some time after 1 I guess. Toast with fruit spread too.

What is Quinoa Pupuce?

pupuce · 26/02/2004 13:23

a south American grain - similar to rice but with more nutrients and vitamins than rice. It's in grain or flakes (bought flakes myself). Available from health food shops.

kagsie · 26/02/2004 13:26

Can someone help please? I want to give dd weetabix as intro to gluten (6 months). Other than add milk and wait for it to go mushy, do I need to do anything else to it? DD doesn't do lumps yet!

DS 2.5 has shreddies made with hot milk so they go all mushy, with a handful of cheerios on the top. He would happily it this 3 times a day, if allowed.
