how much you want to spend?

Up to £40 as I'd like to get a couple of bottles

I've tended to find most champagne is expensive for how it is. I'd go with a good prosecco or cremant rather than champagne.

mikkii · 18/05/2013 11:04

If you have some time, check out supermarket special offers. You can get some really good deals.

I could tell you what I like, but it really is a case of personal preference as there are differences. Do you know if you like a fresh young taste or a more robust vintage style?

DoNotDisturb · 18/05/2013 11:06

Tattinger is my fav in that price bracket. Not too sweet like Moët etc..

Pink champagne is always lovely too for a special occasion.

scaevola · 18/05/2013 11:09

I like Mumms Cordon Rouge. There's also a (cheaper) Napa Valley version if you want lots.

tb · 20/06/2013 11:15

Christian Busin Grand Cru NV Tradition - about ?14 a bottle.

I like Verve. However, the Tesco own brand £15 bottle came out top in a blind taste test of non-vintage champers a couple of years ago. And the judges were apparently all experts. I tried some and it is very good. But it depends if you don't mind a supermarket own brand for a special occasion.

DoItTooJulia · 26/10/2013 21:14

I much prefer an English sparkling wine. Chapel Down, just under £20 a bottle. Really beautiful. That's what I drink now on a special occasion.

If it has to be champagne proper, I second Veuve Cliquot.

glendatheveryexcitedwitch · 26/10/2013 21:17

I find most champagne too dry - we always buy m&s medium dry oudinot and find it luuuuuvly!!!!

hermioneweasley · 26/10/2013 21:17

Lanson rose

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 26/10/2013 21:22

yy - lots of english sparkling wine is better quality than cheap champagne. I really like nyetimber, which you can get for about £25 a bottle

if you're on a budget this vintage rosé cava is great.

for champange, i love laurent perrier rosé if someone else is paying

ajandjjmum · 26/10/2013 21:30

Tattinger or Veuve.

I was lucky enough to buy Tattinger for £18 a bottle on a half price offer from Tesco for DS's 21st - would be worth looking. It did go very quickly though - on the website, as well as when it got here!! Grin

Stropzilla · 26/10/2013 21:33

I fourth Veuve Cliquot!

BellaVita · 26/10/2013 21:45

Veuve here too. Laurient Perrier is also nice.

purplepingu · 26/10/2013 21:49

Pol Roger champagne is lovely, although I've only ever bought it from a wine merchant, but I think Harvey Nichols sell it too. I buy it at £38 a bottle.

But, Aldi champagne at £12 a bottle is a close contender!

jkklpu · 26/10/2013 21:51

If you're near a speciality wine shop, try Vilmart

worldgonecrazy · 26/10/2013 21:51

English sparkling is superior to most of the French stuff. If you can find Camel Valley Rose, it's one of the best in the world. Balfour Brut is also another good one. English sparkling has been beating Champagne in the taste tests for a number of years. Whatever you''re drinking, I hope you have a lovely celebration.

Mominatrix · 10/02/2014 19:48

Billecart salmon non vintage for a good, easy to find champagne.
Agree that that for that price, you can get top class English fizz which is better than most of the big name champagnes. - I love Ridgeview cuvée merret.

Stinkystinkypoopoohead · 10/02/2014 19:54

I'm a bit of a Bolly Babe - has a lovely toasty flavour

Enjoy your celebration Grin

Ememem84 · 10/02/2014 19:56

I prefer sparkly wine. My fave is lindaur.

AlpacaLypse · 10/02/2014 19:57

We celebrated my mum's 80th yesterday with a bottle of Chapel Down English. It was luscious.

Did you know Methode Champanois was actually invented in England? Thieving French gits... Smile
