Not giving dc margarine...............

Lauraa83 · 15/04/2006 22:27

I read a thread on here the other night on things you don't let your dc eat, I noticed lots of people said marg, so what's so bad about it? Is it better to use butter instead then?

I've used flora for years and ds has it now and then on toast, not all that often but is it better to use something else then?

Thanks:)

what if it burns when you pee afterwards? is that wrong?

DaddyCool · 18/04/2006 12:10

sorry.

oliveoil · 18/04/2006 12:11

I use Olivio and I don't think that has it in.

Butter makes holes in bread.

Greensleeves · 18/04/2006 12:14

I got chewed up and spat out on here for trying to defend Olivio. It's butter or nowt, apparently. And butter rips your bread to bits.

Mumsnet robbed me of the joy of sandwiches.Sad.

DaddyCool · 18/04/2006 12:16

have you never heard of spreadable butter or is there something wrong with that

ooh, that sounded a little aggressive. it wasn't meant to be.

bundle · 18/04/2006 12:17

put butter in microwave for 10 seconds for sarnies

oliveoil · 18/04/2006 12:17

MN dictates to no one, pah.

Off for lunch now to eat my Olivio spread white bread sarnies, ta ta.

Janh · 18/04/2006 12:18

Butter does not make holes in bread if you put a chunk in a ramekin and microwave it for 10-15 secs (some kinds take longer than others so experiment unless you like it liquid!)

Janh · 18/04/2006 12:18

Xposted, bundle Smile

zebrama · 18/04/2006 12:18

there is a legal requirement to put hydrog. fats on the label, Blu, I just found that on FSA website but can't find the link atm.
Transfats are not required to be labelled, though.

Greensleeves · 18/04/2006 12:19

Oh, I don't have a microwave. [snooty emoticon]

DaddyCool · 18/04/2006 12:19

hey what about that really pricey benocol stuff thats actually supposed to lower your cholesterol. anyone used that?

My Cholesterol is over '5' (whatever that means) and i'm only 30 so i'm starting to take steps to reduce as i don't want to... well... die.

zebrama · 18/04/2006 12:20

Nuking butter a no-no (energy wasteful) for us eco-freaks, though.
I did try just dribbling olive oil on kids sarnies, but they didn't like it (neither did I ,really).

zebrama · 18/04/2006 12:21

I think that benecol is also hydrog. fat free (hasto be, really).
excuse typpos curusy of 2yo, btw.

DaddyCool · 18/04/2006 12:22

what does he/she know about benocol?... and why is he/she responding to my benocol question?.. advanced kid Shock

Janh · 18/04/2006 12:22

Of course if you didn't have a fridge either you wouldn't need to nuke it.Wink

DaddyCool · 18/04/2006 12:23

unless it was winter... and then you could turn up the heat... which isn't eco friendly either!!... you're screwed. Eco-Freak = no butter

Greensleeves · 18/04/2006 12:24

ACK-sherly....... I keep mine in a butter dish on the worktop, in the hope that it will be spreadable at room temperature, but it never seems to be. I end up having to carve very thin slivers of it and sort of "arrange" them on the bread to get a semi-even coverage.

Auntymandy · 18/04/2006 12:24

I dont eat either myself! But give kids it or olive spread!
If we stop giving them everything that is supposed to be bad for them, there is nothing they can eat!!!

Blu · 18/04/2006 12:25

I'm v pleased to know that it has to be labelled, now, Zebrama, thanks for that. Smile

shellybelly · 18/04/2006 12:28

I use flora and butter and will continue to do so Smile

Auntymandy · 18/04/2006 13:19

I cook with olive oil..is that ok?

shellybelly · 18/04/2006 14:07

I use olive oil too AM and i'm not worried, If i analyised everything i fed dd she won't be eating much! i'm careful in that i never cook with salt, she eats plenty of veg and i don't give her juice just water and she is happy and healthy so i would say continue to cook with olive oil (and its listed in some recipes in anabel karmels book! along with margarine)

oliveoil · 18/04/2006 14:11

i am fabulous

shellybelly · 18/04/2006 14:19
