my dd is now 11 mth and i'm slightly panicking about what i can give her to eat. dd's childminder gave her a sandwich after i specifically asked her not to, then claimed today that, after giving her another one, she hadn't heard me.Angry

dd eats banana and loves it, tried melon, loves toast but what else can i do? pleeeaaaaaaaase help !

what's wrong with sandwiches?

she ought to be able to eat pretty much anything that you eat

BonyM · 22/03/2006 21:43

What's wrong with a sandwich? She can eat more or less what you do now (not processed stuff) as long as there is no added salt.

Hulababy · 22/03/2006 21:45

At that age DD was eating pretty much what we ate, just cut up much smaller and without any rich sauces, spices or salt.

If you don't mind toast I am not sure why you object to sandwiches.

starlover · 22/03/2006 21:45

lol, great minds bonym!

Clary · 22/03/2006 21:46

By this age you can certainly give her what you eat. What's not to like?
A lot easier too. Just cut up the meat etc, make sure you don't use much salt, as Hula says, and steer clear of processed stuff (better for you too).

Whatever I was eating at the time, basically.

misdee · 22/03/2006 21:49

my dd3 eats everything. she was eating curry the other night, off my bloomin plate. she steals nan bread and dips it in. hehehe.

seriously, she can eat anything at 11months old. what is wrong with sanwiches?

fransmom · 22/03/2006 21:51

crikey i only posted 5 mins ago! thanks though.
well, i know it might sound silly but i'm not entirely sure why either. i have slightly sneaking feeling that it might have something to do with when she choked on a small piece of toast (now i know that sounds strange but i have pnd quite bad sometimes and get things confused.)
or might have more to do with cm just ignoring me. i don't want to feel that i'm holding her back with anything as so called friend once suggested rather bluntly, see what i mean about pnd Sad

DD was on family food at that age, so things like:

spag bol
chilli
chicken dinner
cauli cheese
mac. cheese
beef stew
jambalaya
meatloaf
shepherd's pie
risotto
lasagne

for mains and for snacks:
soup and bread
scrambled egg on toast
jacket potato and cheese
and
sandwiches...

Main thing to watch out for is too much salt. Depends what you eat. I never add salt to our food anyway.

Also I think this was the age when she decided she loved plums - she won't eat them now, mind you....

DS used to have a bowl of peas as a snack at that age. Would sit and eat them as finger food.

Bozza · 22/03/2006 21:53

fransmom - two seperate issues:

childminder undermining you is not nice or helpful.

sandwiches are OK for your DD when you say so.

What are you having for tea tomorrow? Could DD share it?

fransmom · 22/03/2006 21:53

do you thin i panicking bit too much? mom died about 7 years ago and now feeling it bit toomuch as now mother figure to really ask. i'm 31 and feel bit lost - is that silly?

OP posts:
fransmom · 22/03/2006 21:54

thanks bozza, was planning shepherds pie, and she wolfed it down last time she tried it

not silly at all. i have 3 kids and even i was asking if what i gave dd3 for lunch the other day was ok.

sandwiches are fine at this age, they are great food on the go as well. (must take some tomorrow with me).

dd3 doesnt like being spoon fed, prefers finger foods now.

starlover · 22/03/2006 21:56

not silly at all fransmom!
try giving her what you have and see how she likes it! it's so much easier than doing separate stuff for them!

colditz · 22/03/2006 22:00

If you are worried about her choking on it, cut it into tiny little squares.

Bozza · 22/03/2006 22:05

Shepherd's pie sounds great. Why don't you try her with that tomorrow and see how she enjoys it? Now is the time to make things easy for yourself - get her eating the same food as you while she is still reasonably compliant. (I assume Grin) Maybe serve it with peas or carrots or brocolli.

How is she teethwise by the way? Not that it necessarily makes any difference.

fransmom · 22/03/2006 22:06

thanx for all advice x i just looked at thread title and can't believe she nearly 1 Sad

my 11 month old ate anything and everythign .. whatever we were having .. just avoid nuts that's all

fisil · 23/03/2006 07:35

not silly fransmom.

ds2 has eaten whatever we're eating and nursery food at nursery since about 8 months - he just wanted to feed himself, and that was the easiest way! But you are the mum and the childminder must listen to you.

fransmom · 23/03/2006 09:33

she has her four front teeth bozza and makes a very toothy grin at me when she being cheeky!! Grin rather like that actually! she likes broccoli and carrots but not v.keen on cauli - not suprising really

hey, sandwiches are great!
i hope you are feeling better about it all now..
i do understand how sometimes it all gets complicated..
my 7month old doesn't eat purees and stuff, due to my attempts at this baby led weaning malarky.
The other day he grabbed a cheese sandwich from my hand at a playgroup sale. He wolfed it down but i was dnacing from foot to foot...everyone thought it was hilarious but i was in turmoil inside...what if the cheese wasn;t organic, what if the bread got stuck..
but he survived Grin
and now sandwhiches are his favourite Smile

fransmom · 23/03/2006 09:43

what can i put on sandwiches? anything within reason ie no salt etc. i don't use salt anyway and now dp has stopped using it 2 - it took me ages to get him to stop using it in cooking, dd comes along and it's gone straight away Grin

i feel a bit better thanks x
