Would you like to help us test recipes for the Mumsnet Cookbook?

Shhh .. don't tell everyone but we're working on a top secret new project in the form of The Mumsnet Cookbook and we need your help.

We'd like to get together a Mumsnet Cookbook cookery group to stop us from piling on the pounds help us test these shortlisted recipes.

Each volunteer will be allocated a recipe which they'll then cook for their family and give us some feedback on how easy, hard, good, bad, expensive etc they are and whether they'd make it again. All the recipes chosen were submitted over the years by Mumsnetters, so there shouldn't be any outlandish Shock or particularly difficult to source ingredients - and they should all be pretty easy to make (we hope!).

As a thank-you, we'll be putting everyone who helps out into a prize draw to win a Bloomsbury cookbook.

And if that's not enough of an incentive, everyone who helps will have their *Mumsnetter nickname featured in the cookbook's acknowledgements.

Fruity Malt loaf... Now a large splodge in the bin. Did not set! Looks like seagull poo after they have eaten berries.

CatherineHMumsnet · 04/10/2012 09:44

Frontpaw - when you were sent your recipe, the email also contained a link to click where you can leave feedback. Sorry to hear about the fruity malt loaf - but then that's exactly the kind of disaster we want to avoid in the book!

SlimJimBra - we had so many offers of people wanting to get involved that we've given everyone just one recipe to test. But we've doubled the number of prizes we're offering in the competition to 20 books.

Pasta crisps didn't go down too well over here, the first time I tried them. I'll give it another go, but the general view from friends and family was 'why bother?' :)

Anyone fancy a recipe swap? I've emailed MNHQ to ask if I can do this, thought I'd get the ball rolling in case I can. I have been given a cheesy recipe, and DH is allergic to cheese, oops!

This is my recipe: www.mumsnet.com/Recipes/i/2457-Tartiflette

Looks amazing too... DH and his 'allergy' Envy

Anything without cheese considered Wink

LeonieDeSaintVire - we haven't picked deliberately dire ones - honestly. Can you make sure you include those comments for your recipe in the feedback section? Thanks!

are you sure about that catherine?? I mean Hot Yoghurt pudding!

ANyways I have made the banana load that i swapped with luisgarcia. And to make up for being a little whinging diva difficult I made both versions.

Sooooooo shall i feed back on the hot yog survey link or pm MNHQ??

And I forgot to get cider so the soup will be tomorrow.

NettoSuperstar · 04/10/2012 14:23

I still want the link for the hot yoghurt recipe.
I've been known to make things because they sound weird, trying a peruvian chicken one tomorrow with evaporated milk, which I'm convinved will be gross, but I'm intrigued.

DharmaBumpkin · 04/10/2012 16:35

Catherine have replied to your email but just in case you see this first! Am making the chocolate Mars Bar pudding (thanks for the choice btw... Kids are delighted) but there is a mistake in the recipe... Ingredients list doesn't include butter but there is instructions to cream butter and sugar in the recipe.

Have emailed you and after a little frantic googling PM'd GraceK, whose recipe it appears to be, but wondered if there were any other avenues to try?

If I can't get official word I will just guess that butter & sugar are equal and see how that goes.

Thanks!

Frontpaw · 04/10/2012 17:00

Can I have a one that works please? The malty doo-da splodge was a disaster!

Catsmamma · 04/10/2012 17:11

Netto ..have pm'd you the recipe link!

NettoSuperstar · 04/10/2012 19:15

That yoghurt thing is all kinds of wrong.
What were you think MNHQ? Confused

Catsmamma · 05/10/2012 17:25

Catherine!!

Cooooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Catherine!!

I am making up for my bad behaviour...I have made BOTH versions of the banana loaf, both were half gone within minutes very well received.

ANd I made the soup today, but I need links to the survey, one for the second banana loaf, and one for the soup.

And where are we to send pictures??

Ours is Sunday lunch. All ingredients assembled and ready. DS is very much into 'helping' with the cooking at the moment, let's hope the result is not too... interesting Hmm

Parisbanana · 06/10/2012 14:48

Catherine I left some feedback a couple of days ago after I made our recipe for me and dd. I have now managed to also try it out on dh and ds so I'm going to send another feedback form relating just to their opinions if that's okay?
And a photo will be sent on shortly.

Parisbanana · 06/10/2012 14:52

Oh, we'll just discovered when I click on the link it won't allow me to read do feedback. So just for your info,if it is any use to you on here rather than on the proper feedback form....dh thought it was okay (he's pretty polite) but wouldn't be in a hurry to have it again. Ds, who is 9, wasn't impressed at all!

Parisbanana · 06/10/2012 14:52

Sorry for awful auto correct typos Blush

tigercametotea · 06/10/2012 14:59

Ooh ...new recipes to try out.

Chepstowmonkey · 06/10/2012 15:28

Just done mine and I'm really dissapointed! I had such high hopes for the recipe but it wasn't really worth the effort. I've done my proper feedback form too but thought i'd join in the discussion here.

Has anyone had a good recipe?

UnChartered · 06/10/2012 15:32

i have, delish bread/scone

anyone want to try it?

Frontpaw · 06/10/2012 16:02

What was it Chepstow?
Yes please, Unchartered!

I'm retrying the Malty Loaf. Hopefully it won't end up in the bin looking like a great dane/small pony poo like last time!

UnChartered · 06/10/2012 16:17

have sent it via PM, Front

Frontpaw · 06/10/2012 16:24

Ooo ta! I won't share the Malty Poo Loaf until I get it to work!

Chepstowmonkey · 06/10/2012 16:25

Mine was for mini quiche. They were okay - me and DH ate them (Dd didn't but then she's 2 so it is probably best not to judge the quality of food on the basis of what she likes!).

They took over an hour to make (30mins chilling in fridge and 25 mins in the oven) so not hard work but I still had to be quite organised to arrive home an hour before we need to eat lunch. I suppose they would be good cold so you could cook them in the evening but the taste really wasn't worth the effort.

Pity, but it has reminded me how much I love proper homemade quiche with homemade pastry and cream in the filling. Yum yum...now that is worth the effort!
