I did Jamie Oliver's Jules fav beef stew last night, it has a sweetness everyone loves.

RedBeret · 05/09/2012 18:43

marvellous! thanks. I can get meal planning now.

If I know what I am doing in advance, it saves all that looking in the fridge for inspiration at 4pm.

Ying - is that recipe online somewhere? sounds yum.

cauliflower cheese...i make mine with bacon on top

mac cheese you already mentioned but again i put in cutted up frankfurters or that mattisons smoked sausage

great bowl of soup with cheesey scones or french bread croutons

cowboy casserole...basically sausages with tinned stuff, baked beans or kidney, sweetcorn, tinned tomatoes, tinned mushrooms, tinned potatoes, brown the sausages and just fling in the rest of it and into the oven till it's all bubbling.

and a very old childhood favourite, fishfinger pie, tin of beans into a big flattish dish, half cook your fish fingers and put on the top, pile over mash, fresh or left over, some grated cheese and into the oven till the potato is golden.

twice baked potatoes...bake them, scoop out the innards, add cheese/ham/sweetcorn relish, dollop of mayo or soured cream and maybe some cheese cubes, pile it all back into the skins and back into the oven with some more grated cheese n top. Variations on this theme include PInk Potatoes....use baked beans, it turns the potato pink, or you can use Chicken pie filling, although that's really quite expensive these days!

It's been ages since I did most of the above...real quick easy nursery teas! Although we are having cauli cheese tonight!

If you want to cook properly then a real fish pie is nice, or make a chicken and mushroom pie, or steak and ale?? lasagne? Bolognaise? Chilli??

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 05/09/2012 18:54

Chilli, make a big batch for 2 nights, one can be with rice the other on baked pots or in pittas or tacos.
Fish pie.
Sausages with tons of roasted veg.
Chicken, chorizo and butterbean stew, using thighs so not too pricey.
Stovies.

Baked beans with anything helps to fill them up, my mum always said.

Fisharefriendsnotfood · 05/09/2012 18:57

Have you a slow cooker? Shoulder of pork, cut the fat off, pour over half bottle of BBQ sauce and a can of full fat coke. Leave 8 ish hours, shread pork and thicken sauce with cornflour serve with cheesy mash Smile

Lick the plates good

bigkidsdidit · 05/09/2012 19:00

Chorizo, chickpe and tomato stew (Nigel Slater)

Salmon en croute is surprisingly easy and quick with pots

When I make potatoes I make double and the next day make a Spanish omelette the next day

Chicken cacciatore goes down well too :)

YingTongIddleIPo · 05/09/2012 19:01

Yes! Here I highly recommend the lemon gremolata jobby added at the end, it really is great. I have cooked this for evenings with friends and just as a wekknight dinner, it's so lovely and melts in the mouth. Waitrose do frozen butternut squash which is just right for this.

GetOrfAKAMrsUsainBolt · 05/09/2012 19:04

Cauliflower Macaroni cheese is a good one (Jamie Oliver recipe).

Ditto the Chorizo chickpea and tomato stew (from Nigella Kitchen) and the Tunisian stew (from Nigella Feast).

All different types of curry made the night before so ready to eat in minutes the next day.

Spare ribs with jacket potatoes and corn on the cob

Snog · 05/09/2012 19:09

pregnantpause · 05/09/2012 19:13

Sausage and bean casserole
Winter veg and pearl barley stew
Mince and rosemary dumplings
Chicken rice and beans (caribbean style)
Tacos/fajitas
Flatbread and dhal
Lasagne
Chicken and squash traybake with harrisa
Canneloni stuffed with mince and tomato sauce
Tortilla
Pea and bacon risotto
Fish pie
Tuna veg pasta bake
Lambs shank and mash in red wine gravy
These are all my emergency meals. Filling easy and well received ( fussy family )

most other stuff we do has already been mentioned the only other one i can think of at moment is sausages braised in cider with cheesy mash and garlicy shrooms. I'm the only one on our house who likes it so i don't make it anymore
