pork casserole, left out overnight, would you use it??

made a pork casserole last night in mustard sauce, it was scrummy! then, ended up watching maid in manhattan, and sloped off to bed leaving the other half of it still in the casserole dish on the worktop Sad!! completely forgot to put it in the fridge,and was going to have it for dinner tonight. ds won't be having it, do i risk it, if i reheat it to v.high temperature? the kitchen stays pretty cool at night, as i don't put the heating back on till i get up. its just it was sooooo yummy!!!

I am pretty cavlier with these things..I might eat it myself but wouldn't inflict it on anyone else (definitely not the children)

I would. I often leave out a casserole I have made int he morning until the evening for recooking. My fridge isn't big enough. Have lived so far Grin

I would eat it. As you say its cold at night so ne can't imagine there will be a problem. Have done this before myself

i'd eat it.so long as you reheat thoroughly-and keep it at a high temp for at least five mins or so then should be fine.it's cold at night anyway.
what did people do before fridges?

If there was any bacteria in the pork that will have been killed off when it was cooked initially. If any bacteria developed over night that will be killed off when it is reheated. As long as the kitchen was cool it should be ok and not have started to decompose. If in doubt don't feed it to people with lowered immune systems, the very young, the very old or pregnant women.

I would eat it myself but I have cast iron constitution. probably wouldn't give it to children though.

Er..there would be more bacteria on your dishcloth than there would in your casserole,believe me!

I think the psychologically it seems more risky overnight when you haven't been watching it than during the day for the same length of time Grin

sure I'd eat it. (of course I'd heat it first). I'd freeze some for the kids as well.

I often put a casserole in the night before to eat the next day. I've read plenty of magazine recipes that say casseroles improve after a day because the flavours have time to develop. As you say, it's winter so the kitchen would be cold. People used to keep food in pantries, remember, before we even invented fridges.

People need to get a grip.

I would eat it, and serve it.I would heat it in the oven until bubbling for 1/2 hour though.
