made a pork casserole last night in mustard sauce, it was scrummy! then, ended up watching maid in manhattan, and sloped off to bed leaving the other half of it still in the casserole dish on the worktop Sad!! completely forgot to put it in the fridge, and was going to have it for dinner tonight. ds won't be having it, do i risk it, if i reheat it to v.high temperature? the kitchen stays pretty cool at night, as i don't put the heating back on till i get up. its just it was sooooo yummy!!!

bags me scrape the pan

Aero · 13/03/2006 11:51

Yes - it will be fine. Just make sure you heat it thoroughly until it's piping hot.

expatinscotland · 13/03/2006 12:18

no

poppy101 · 13/03/2006 12:19

no I wouldn't, if I forget to put away then I tend to throw out especially if it has meat in it.

Enid · 13/03/2006 12:23

yes

in fact I probably would have sneaked a cold bit this morning too

throckenholt · 13/03/2006 12:35

have done it numerous times (usually beef not pork) - our fridge isn't big enough to take the caserole. I would eat it cold as well Grin, but for others would just stick in a hot over or on the hob to get really hot and kill of any bugs that had taken up residence over night.

I was brought up on stews that were kept going for a few days - with extra veggies and spuds added after the first day (that was when we were totally skint Grin). I heartily hated stew then - but love it now.

spacecadet · 13/03/2006 12:38

so long as it was removed from the heat and left to cool down(ie, not kept warm for a while, then left out) and you reheat it thoroughly until its piping hot it will be fine. what did people do before they had fridges?Grin

niceglasses · 13/03/2006 12:40

I'd probably eat it and even give it to the kids if I made sure it was good and hot.......funny the different reactions!!

elliott · 13/03/2006 12:51

I'd eat it, having reheated it really thoroughly - don't know about your kitchen, but mine was pretty cold last night....
In the height of summer I might feel differently.

zippitippitoes · 13/03/2006 12:58

the main risk is from the couple of bacteria strains which produce spores which are more resistant to heat, these may then multiply as bacteria in foods especially stews which are not cooled quickly and refrigerated, they may then in turn produce spores which are resistant to heat

these are clostridium perfringens and bacillus cereus for example

it does also depend on how well the food was cooked and prepared originally

poeple without fridges tend not to have central heating at all Grin

most food poisoning bugs are more serious for vulnerable people

Rhian101 · 13/03/2006 14:01

I definately would! Heat it up and boil it thoroughly for a minimum of 10 mins and there'll be nothing wrong with it. Don't waste good food!

collision · 13/03/2006 16:33

What was your final decision!

Dh still says no, no, no!! Bacteria doubles every 20 mins and pork is one of the most dangerous meats to reheat!

motherinferior · 13/03/2006 16:58

I personally would have snarfed it without thinking.

gscrym · 13/03/2006 17:01

I'll eat it if you won't. Stuff it in a freezer bag and post it to me. I'll live with the consequences. Grin

DelGirl · 13/03/2006 17:07

forget the pork casserole, can someone tell me what happened in the last 10 minutes of maid in manhatten? I fell asleep. I assume they got it together? Grin

gscrym · 13/03/2006 17:10

Her little boy turned up at a press conference, asked if someone who told a lie should get a second chance. Ralph Fiennes went off to find her with little boy and oodles of press in tow. Large snoggy part then happily ever after.

Loved the cream dress she had on at the party.

DelGirl · 13/03/2006 17:13

awwww. Thanks. I thought she was very Audrey Hepburn in the Gucci? cream coat.

alibo · 13/03/2006 18:48

well death by casserole or not?

SenoraPostrophe · 14/03/2006 09:18

oh god yes. If it's reheated well, the risk is miniscule and probably smaller than that of eating a prawn sandwich anyway.

alibo · 14/03/2006 13:23

well folks, i actually chickened out and gave the pork a miss last night!!! i get irritable bowel a lot, and can have a dodgy stomach at the best of times, so thought better not take the chance!Sad. next time i'll make sure the bloomin thing goes in the fridge(wink)
