Just finished decorating a cake and it looks sweaty.

I baked cake yest. Crumb coated last night left in fridge until today.

Covered in icing and decorated in fondant.

It looks all greasy and horrible.

Wtf did I do?

I'll put a pic on my profile in a minute.

I am pleased that the recipient liked it but it's not what I would have chosen to do.

I suppose that is part and parcel of making cakes for others.

Next up is the dreaded Minnie mouse cake and cupcakes. Then I have another parcel cake for Saturday, but that should be easy as its up to me what I do with that one.

Saturday night is going time involve a very large drink for me! This week has been so hectic.

Mike - missed what Minnie cake you are doing - why are you dreading it?

MikeLitorisRings · 09/08/2012 21:33

I'm dreading the Minnie one as its the first time doing a cake for someone I don't know. I like to practice a cake first too but just have not had time.

She hasn't been to specific about what she wants but it has to be pink and Minnie.

DD1 is mad for Minnie Mouse and when we were looking at cakes this is the cake she wanted. Simple to do and pretty easy to identify who it is about. DD1 has since changed her mind and now wants Elephants and ballerinas!

MikeLitorisRings · 09/08/2012 22:15

That's what I wanted to do but she only wants a small one. She started off asking for a big cupcake and then asked for one that looks like a present. Now she doesn't't mind along as its pink.

I have never stacked a cake before Confused

Blueberry, very much like that cake! Mike, you could do that no problem, easy peasy for someone with your talent, and one or two bows, not millions!!!

My polka dot cake with the animals on my page was easy to do, a tip i had in my local decorating shop was to put one of the thin cake boards inbetween them to give it stability, which i did and turned out fine.

blueberryboybait · 09/08/2012 22:28

It can work well on one tier too here is a good example.

Stacking is easy, small cake goes on a thin cake board, the bottom cake has dowels (thick straws work very well) pushed in and cut off level with the icing once you have iced it, in the area the top cake sits, You then sit the top cake onto the bottom cake and the dowels stop the top cake from falling through the bottom cake. You tube has some fab tutorials. here is a great step by step picture guide.

I was thinking of something like this

I don't want to get too carried away and try anything to ambitious just yet.

I'm a bit peed off that I didn't get a pic of the finished cakes. No idea how I managed to forget to take a pic! Especially the Minnie one :( I actually really liked it by the end.

By the time it was finished all the Minnies had bows.

I have had two orders for dept and one for November so I think I better get practicing on the stacking
