You're nice netto snail mail an' all!! I bet yr DD wasn't forced till sick to eat beetroot by an evil nun!!!

Lottapianos · 25/07/2012 11:15

I had a good look at this in Waterstones the other day and was droooooooling all over the pages. Cant' wait to buy it now I hear that so many of you love it!

NettoSuperstar · 25/07/2012 11:32

No, Ppeatfruit, I don't force her to eat anything.
As a result she'll try anything and eat things she's not massively keen on, plus try things she's previously not liked prepared a different way.
I don't get forcing kids to eat, it's cruel and is never going to end up in a healthy relationship with food.

Lottapianos · 25/07/2012 12:15

'I don't get forcing kids to eat, it's cruel and is never going to end up in a healthy relationship with food'

Netto, can you please grab a megaphone and walk through the street shouting it at the top of your lungs? I do wonder what sorts of dreadful eating disorders some children will end up with from parents doing really unhelpful things like this when they are very young.

perplexedpirate · 25/07/2012 12:20

I luuuurrrrve this book, my mum bought it me for Christmas. I may have to go cook right now.

The Aldo Zilli Fresh and Green book is good too. Hoorah for new, interesting, vegetarian cook books!

ppeatfruit · 25/07/2012 13:04

lotta and netto I soooo agree about force feeding L.O.s DH's relationship with food is certainly fxxxxed up. I can't believe that people still do it. I'm lucky (though an old gimmer! ) that my parents were enlightened.

NettoSuperstar · 25/07/2012 14:04

Book in post.
Small local branch of post office though just before Half day closing so it won't go until tomorrow.
Sent first class though so should be there by Friday.

ppeatfruit · 25/07/2012 14:38

Sounds nice and relaxed like here Fr. !

seabuckthorn · 25/07/2012 18:50

Blog linky please Ilovestripeysocks :)

seabuckthorn · 25/07/2012 18:57

I agree Netto my DC will try anything, I like to think this is due to our laid back approach with food and no force feeding.
It backfired from quite a selfish point of view as I now hide olives in the fridge or I won't get a look in!

NettoSuperstar · 25/07/2012 19:06

Oh I count myself lucky, DD loved stinky cheese when she was younger, she doesn't now.
This is great for me, as it's now all mineGrin

seabuckthorn · 25/07/2012 19:37

Ah they may grow out of it then? There is hope I can eat olives in peace again rather than some kind of secret eater!

seabuckthorn · 26/07/2012 19:40

Slight variation on the beetroot tarte tatin: I used ready cooked vacuum packed beetroot and instead of the dressing I had a bit of decent mayo on the side. It was a triumph of an emergency fridge raided dinner Grin

ppeatfruit · 27/07/2012 09:08

Yes I love those vacuum packed beetroots as well not if they're in vinegar though. Grin

seabuckthorn · 27/07/2012 15:51

Ppeatfruit I do also love a jar of beetroot in vinegar but only at Christmas, odd tradition!

ppeatfruit · 28/07/2012 09:28

AAAH no !! I get acid indigestion and spots from vinegar!

Zhaghzhagh · 01/08/2012 15:28

Economymode - thanks for the Sainsbury bargain book link!

VikingVagine · 10/08/2012 10:36

This is one of my favourite recipe books.

I know the op said no fennel, but the fennel ans squash lasagna is wonderful, and you can always replace the fennel with onions or leeks (DH hates fennel too). The bechamel sauce alone is a recipe worth saving for other dishes.

Chestnutx3 · 10/08/2012 18:29

Sorry I absolutely hate this cookbook. I'm a keen cook but I think it may be relegated like Nigella's baking book to the charity shop. I've done 6 things from it - all either vergining on the inedible or else tasteless. Eat loads of veggie food and grow alot of my own so thought it would be great. St Hugh lost his halo.

NigellaPleaseComeDineWithMe · 15/08/2012 11:04

How could you send Nigella HTBADG to a charity shop Sad?? Doe a few things from the book - mainly inspired by DS2 having a veggie girlfriend but actually look forward to doing more veggie things.

Surely you taste as you go - so you can adjust to your own preferences?

In my HTBADG there are still a few pencil marks and recipes get tweaked and changed based on experiences / ideas (plus sorting out a couple of publishing errors).

If you really can't get on with the book then I know I could pass this onto to DS2 GF as she has been impressed so far with the offerings made (is that why she keeps asking to come around after school??).

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 16/08/2012 11:20

I actually agree with Chestnut too. Everything I've cooked from it is tasteless. And I've given it a good try because we eat 50/50 vegetarian already.

Only thing that's good is the refried beans. But then I already can do refried beans.

AlaskaNebraska · 16/08/2012 11:21

well i looked at it then took it back to the library as i just didnt have time to do anhy of it

OneLittleToddlingTerror · 16/08/2012 11:22

For example, the sweetcorn fritters. Is it supposed to have a dipping sauce to go with it?
